What should I do after my DTV visa application was rejected due to a naming error?

Hi. Applied for DTV visa on 9/11 online through embassy in Washington DC. Today I got rejected. It says I used the number “0” instead of the letter “O” in my surname. I went back to a new application and you can’t even enter numbers in the family name blank.

I don’t see a way to try to make a correction. Any advice on how to proceed? Would hate to have to pay for it again (and possibly rejected again for the same reason). Anyone has a phone or email that I could call and ask?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user faced a rejection for their DTV visa application due to a mistake in their surname where '0' was used instead of 'O'. Other commenters indicate that correcting such mistakes is not possible as embassies typically do not allow changes once submitted, resulting in forfeited fees. They suggest reaching out to the embassy for clarification and further assistance or reapplying with caution to avoid similar mistakes. Common advice includes ensuring meticulous checks on personal data before resubmission.

The solution maybe that your PC or phone has a number ...letter setting. When you type O..letter is types 0 zero.

Change to ur PC or Phone and edit the application

They also have a Facebook page and might respond to POLITE queries.

I applied recently to LA office.

The first item I downloaded was a not great picture of my passport.

The machine could not read anything of the bio data but said it would be corrected in the subsequent section where it is typed in manually.

This implies they are relying on their machine to do the reading and it’s imperfect.

I do hope my application is not rejected….or they ask for a better copy.

Does anyone want to speak to the LA consulate staff? They are having a Thailand Beach Party in Santa Monica tomorrow Saturday.

Ok I got an email this afternoon.

They could not read the bio data page of the passport.

They did not like the screenshot of my bank app.

They want a copy of my business registration and tax return.

This is actually good, because a human being is looking at my application.

Presumably It will be easier to upload the information this time.

good luck. I wrote them a polite email explaining my situation. Don’t have high hopes for it but this was more of a want than a need so I’m not too worried about it.

Rejected and lose the fee payment? Absolutely insane. Sorry you have to deal with this bureaucratic nightmare.
Michael *********
Submit a new application, make the correction, and submit same documentation. Seems that's the only option.

yes sir. I’ll probably wait a while. It’s not an urgent need.

This happened to me when I got the METV… the app removed my middle name after clicking next step and they just rejected it..

I had to pay again

I just got my DTV today in person in Laos.

Took 2 days

I realise it’s too late for this application, and you’ll have to reapply, but in certain fonts there’s two common traps, O (Oscar) / 0 (zero), and upper case I (India) / lower case l (lima). I work around this by using copy-paste from a reliable original text. I say reliable TEXT because copy-paste from an image (such as a Passport scan) can transpose these similar looking characters. Good luck.

I recently applied - THREE TIMES - for a non-o visa for my 4 year old son. I applied twice with the Thai embassy in Washington D.C. and once with the U.S. Consulate in New York. The Washington D.C. applications came back with a request for additional documents (when I provided everything they should have required). The application with the Thai Consulate in New York was approved - with the exact same set of documents. Go figure. But I know one thing, I’ll never apply through Washington D.C. Thai Embassy again.

NYC is the best in the US to use.

I am of the understanding that if you are from certain states you must apply through the WDC office like me in Texas. Is this not the case???
Garrett ***********
@Richard *****
Just tell them you're living in NY

@Garrett **********
no thank you I would never jeopardize my chances to go to Thailand 🇹🇭 that way.

I have processed many visas through the WDC office and never had a problem.

The DC office is the worst.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 'Thai automated rejection '. It's computer generated. No one even bothered to look at it and there's NOTHING you can do! Been there done that lost my application fee
Greta *****
@Hiram *******
No

I couldn't see what I could do differently so I have up. Decided to only apply on person from then on

happened to me at the dc embassy also. I can’t believe I applied twice to it but the second time, knowing what to look for, I combed through my application and felt semi-comfortable submitting again and eventually got approved. 800 visa… sigh still worth it but definitely wouldn’t have recommend DC to anyone new

@Jean-Maurice *******
I'll apply forine from Laos

did you do anything different the second time around?
Will **************
Same happened with me. Ended up paying for another application. Hoping they can manually edit on their end in the future
Henrik *****
The Embassies clearly state in their website, that they can’t change any of the personal data, and you have to be vigilant that you don’t make mistakes.

It can be an idea to make a screenprint, before going to the next page in the application.
Benjamin *********
@Henrik ****
they may "clearly state" but it's still incredibly stupid to forfeit the fee for such a thing. Bureaucracy alive and well.
Henrik *****
Not about bureaucracy, they will have to process the application twice if the applicant has send ind a faulty application.

And they have cautioned the applicant to make sure there are no errors in the application.

Would you do the same job for a client twice, if you only get paid once.

I’ll see if I can contact someone there tomorrow.
Will **************
@Hiram *******
Do contact, I ended up getting it

They said they can’t change the name on their end, seems like an easy system fix they can implement eventually
Chris *****
Infuriating! It’s worth calling them. Don’t ask, don’t get.

IIRC, it’s lifted from the bio-data page on your passport, isn’t it?
Chris *******
@Chris ****
yes but what happens is you have to confirm the info is correct.

If you don't notice it, you lose.

Happens often

@Chris ******
yup I think that’s what happened. The bad thing is I actually entered all the info manually and loaded the passport later. I think it overwrote my entries but as I took a look didn’t see that. I need to check if the auto transpose can put numbers on there as I couldn’t manually type a number in the entry spot.
Chris *******
@Hiram *******
yeah this happened to a friend last month, he had to reapply.

It’s all very clear at their website.

( It is pretty much standard phrases on every Thai Embassy website, so check everything thoroughly before sending, or you will lose the fee )

@Henrik ****
as I mentioned I went and tried to purposefully put a number in the name blank and it wouldn’t take it. So how could I put a number in a spot where a number isn’t a valid entry?
Marco ********
@Hiram *******
did it come from the automatic OCR from the passport picture? that has to be a OCR from the 90s, it fails every single time.
Brandon ************
You cannot make a correction. If the embassy determines there was any incorrect information with the passport it's immediate rejection of the entire application and forfeiting of the application fee.
