What should I do after my DTV visa application was canceled due to a 'wrong country of passport' error?

I applied for my DTV Visa in Hanoi a few days ago.

Today I received this brief message:

"Your view application has been canceled. Wrong country of passport."

No further explanation or way to contact them.

The E-Visa dashboard isn't very helpful either.

What do you recommend for next steps? 🤔

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reports a cancellation of their DTV visa application due to a 'wrong country of passport' error without any explanation from the authorities. Many comments suggest that this might be a common system glitch where information such as passport country or personal details are misinterpreted during submission. Recommendations include double-checking all information submitted on the application, contacting the appropriate authorities or embassies for assistance, and possibly reapplying if necessary. Some others shared similar experiences and advised using reliable channels or agencies for visa applications to avoid issues.

It happened with me. I from Ecuador but I have to renew my passport in India because I live abroad.

When they asked in what country you passport was issued I wrote India, but was wrong was Ecuador because the embassies they have they own territories

This sounds like a system glitch. I keep seeing people having this issue, even with names not matching their passport cos the system got funky somehow.

I went through a “reputable” agency here and they screwed it up and denied accountability. So. I went with another agent and she actually knows what she’s doing.

Does this mean if you have a UK passport or any other passport you must apply in UK or the country of your passport only ?

You can apply in many countries with a UK passport. I applied in Taipei with mine. You can apply in any country which accepts non residents.

Yes, just call your bank. There’s likely a form to fill out. Explain that you did not receive clear instructions and the office is unresponsive. The bank will contact the embassy for an explanation. If they do not reply with detailed explanation, the bank will do a chargeback. There are rules to running a commerce site. My friend got his $343 fee back.

it clearly states that once submitted, the fee is non-refundable. Thus asking your bank to dispute this charge is futile.

I had a similar situation, I guess, but I'm not sure if it was my fault or theirs. Anyway, I was applying for a DTV visa from Cambodia, and I received it with the wrong country in the passport section.

If you had issued in a different country to your home Courtney you HAVE to put your home country. This is one of the reasons they can reject for what you said.

Make sure you verify that when you submit the picture of your passport that all the information is exactly the same as on your passport. There have been issues with people submitting their biodata page and things like their passport number was transcribed wrong or middle name was dropped or name misspelled. Need to check all your info a second time before hitting submit.

Triple check everything before you submit your application. The OCR machine reader of the passport data page can make mistakes, you are warned about this when you upload the passport data page. Honestly passport country is wrong, how could you miss that? I recommend you take your time through each and every step and kick yourself a few times as well. This application is toast.

The only thing I can think of is I put 'Bangkok' as my place of issue but not sure why that would be an issue 🤷‍♂️

Exactly this. It was discussed before around here, you might have missed it. Yes, it may be confusing but your place of issue (except for very special cases) is always your passport country. Note place of issue is not place of residence which is mentioned in some passports. All passports are normally issued in the PP country even if the holder lives abroad

because that isn't the answer they are looking for. even if it was processed in Thailand, your passport was still issued by an authority in the UK.

This is definitely the issue. Even if your US passport was issued in Bangkok, the issuing authority is still from the United States and should be entered as such. The consulate officers have no method of modifying your entered application data and you will therefore have to submit a new application, unfortunately.

because it was issued by UK, which is what you need to put. I have seen it before on replacement passport as place of issue being different to issuing country. It’s the issuing country that has to be used and NOT the place.
