Just had extension of stay based on retirement renewed till Nov 2019 and multiple entry visa also obtained. Had to go to Australia and upon arrival they noted minor damage in my Aussie passport. Info page is still legible and i have obtained a replacement passport and will be returning next week. Obviously will need to show both passports upon return and explain. Is there any paperwork to be completed for transfer of extension and METV to replacement passport?. Also assuming this can all be done at Jomtien where it was all issued.? Any advice and info very much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has recently renewed their extension of stay based on retirement and obtained a multiple entry visa. After obtaining a replacement passport due to minor damage on their Australian passport, they are seeking advice on the paperwork needed to transfer their extension and multiple entry permit to the new passport. Community suggestions recommend taking both passports to the immigration office where the original permits were issued, as they will provide guidance on necessary copies for the transfer. Some users clarify terminology around Multi Entry Permits versus Multi Entry Tourist Visas, sharing their personal experiences with similar situations.

maybe he had to come in person. I already had my extension stamps and re-entry permits transferred from old to new passports twice on Immigration Sisaket. One must just make sure when entering Thailand that you show the Immigration officers BOTH passports, so they can issue you the correct entry stamp (they write the number of the still valid extension from old passport onto the entry stamp in the new passport) Later you visit your immigration and have both stamps transferred. Absolutely no issues and it was for free

Tried this exact same thing with hubby’s passport and they said NO !! Mai Dan cannot do. We we’re simply trying to get the current retirement visa and multiple entry permits transferred to new passport. This was at Immigration Jomtien by the way, they said to just show the 2 passports on entry and then wait until the visa etc expires and then renew in new passport

That was totally WRONG for Jomtien to turn you away IF indeed you're on yearly extensions of stays and have a new passport.

Transferring stamps to a new passport is a FREE service and should be done at every immigration office. I would have called the complaint line while standing in the immigration office if someone pulled crap like that on me.

, every year there seems to be something “new” to make things that much more difficult for “us” 😀 been dealing with now for 15 years, gone are the days when we could simply get a Multiple Entry VISA from embassies overseas

Ok Eva thanks for that i will post what they say to me next week when i try the same thing.......appreciate that ....i always expect little traps in most processes at the thai immigration......the last few years renewals have always required something different each year when i thought i had everything covered!!

by the way you do not have a Multi Entry "Visa" or METV along with your extension of Stay based on retirement. What you have is a "Multi Re-Entry Permit" . A METV is a Multi Entry Tourist Visa valid for six months

Thanks for the clarification......

Take both passports to the immigration office where you got your yearly extension (or do your 90 day reporting) and they'll tell you what copies to make to get the stamps transferred to the new passport.
