Can I travel in and out of Thailand with two passports after renewing due to a name change?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I am in Thailand with extension of stay granted in December 2018 (extension of F-visa) at which time I got a multi re-entry permit.

I have now renewed my passport due to name change after marriage, but have been told that I can't transfer my multi re-entry permit, only my extension. I would need to buy another re-entry permit. Is this correct?

If so, can I travel in/out of Thailand with both passports until my next extension is due?

Many Thanks in advance of your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Thailand seeks clarification on immigration rules after renewing their passport due to a name change. They have an existing multi re-entry permit that they were told cannot be transferred to the new passport, requiring the purchase of a new re-entry permit. The user also inquires whether they can travel in and out of Thailand using both their old and new passports until their next visa extension.
