Hi all, i am visiting in December for 30 days. I am a UK passport holder. I was going to enter on a Visa waiver, but may need to change my travel plans, and now need to be in Thailand for 34 days - what is the best option to do?

regards

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK passport holder planning to visit Thailand for 34 days has several options. The most recommended is to apply for a 60-day tourist visa from their home country, which costs around 1,900 baht. Alternatively, they could arrive on a visa exemption for 30 days and then extend their stay by 30 days at a Thai immigration office. However, it's crucial to avoid overstaying, which can lead to penalties. The discussion also highlighted the visa processing times at the Thai embassy in London, typically 3-4 days by post.

Visa setv 2 Mont

Or

30 day visa exempt and extend 30 days any immigration office

Or 30 day visa exempt and a border run..

But I think best is do a 2 Mont visa home and you no have nothing more to do after in thailand

Whatever you do DO NOT OVERSTAY! You can get 60 day tourist visa from your home country or get 30 day extension from Thai Immigration after you arrive in Thailand. 1,900 Thai baht. Enjoy your trip in peace.

James Miller what happens if you overstay other than a fine? Is it a big deal to overstay by one day?

I'd apply for a 60-day tourist visa, outside of Thailand, but it can be costly (1,900 baht equivalent?). Perhaps someone else can confirm the cost.

It's always been the rule to have the correct visa/travel docs/return flight or onward travel. Nothing new.

Mark Atkins As long as the flight out is within 30 days. The OP wants to stay for 34 days

So flights are no issue given people planning to stay 34 days will have a flight out too.

I know.I couldn't believe it when the airline crew said, "Yes, we are being serious." (my McEnroe moment). There wasn't any doubt that I'd be leaving Thailand... I had a job to go back to in UAE in mid-August. So annoying... they should inform people in advance about this. For sure that there will be some advice somewhere, but this was the first time I'd come across this rule.

Well if it is 60 days as you mention I imagine someone planning to stay 34 days will have a flight out. I always thought it was 30 days for the flight booking but that's no big deal either, just book a flexible ticket or a refundable cheapie out within the period required.

I know a few people who have been refused boarding from the UK without the correct travel docs. Immigration on entering Thailand is much less of an issue.

Yes, you must have an onward flight booked from Thailand to another country within the 60-day period. Some UK airline check-in desk flight crew can be strict on this and not allow you to board from the UK to Thailand without it. It happened to me once in Manchester airport. So, I had to book a flight out of Thailand there and then at the airport using their computer. I just managed to board my flight in time (I had planned to book a flight later because I'd be in Thailand for 5 weeks).

You mean might be a problem but I have yet to meet anyone flying from the UK with a clean history that was turned away by the airline or immigration.

Apply by post in the UK. Boarding a flight from the UK would also be a problem without a visa or no return/onward within 30 days

Steve Greir Depends how much travel and associated cost etc. is required in the UK and if there's no negative history, W30 entry and extensions are usually granted

WOW £25 is only just over 1,000 THB. So, SETV means a 60-day tourist visa?
