What are the options for extending a UK citizen's Visa exemption in Thailand?

Hi!

I am coming to Thailand on Visa exemption as I am from the UK. I am not certain but am open to extend this by another 30 days if it there is opportunity. In this case, what are my options?

The Thai Embassy website appears to show that any visa extension must be done beforehand but this means I would have to commit to this beforehand and use it up. Is there anyway of doing it there when you are in Thailand as a UK resident?

Also if you decide to left the country after 30 days and go to a nearby country and you want to return does the exemption re-set or would there need to be a visa as you have already used up 30 days a week or two prior in Thailand.

Lastly, does this additional 30 day or any extension days granted have to be carried out as consecutive days in Thailand?

Any advice on the above would be appreciated as some of it feels slightly unclear and conflicting :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen entering Thailand on a visa exemption can stay for 30 days, which can be extended for another 30 days at local immigration offices within Thailand. Extensions must be applied for after arrival and can only be granted once per entry. If the visitor leaves Thailand, the initial entry is canceled, and they can re-enter for another 30 days under the visa exemption rule. Each entry must be for consecutive days, as leaving the country resets the visa exemption period. Additionally, travelers can apply for a 60-day tourist visa before arriving and extend it by another 30 days.

You could also get a 60 day tourist visa online (the evisa), so gives you more flexibility

You can also extend this by another 30 days at immigration inside Thailand.

I THINK you can exit and re-enter Thailand on this visa, as long as you get a "re-entry permit" from immigration before you leave Thailand.

Each visa exempt entry grants a 30 day stay, and each entry can be extended one time for 30 more days at Immigration offices within Thailand. Each time you leave Thailand ends the visa exempt entry (and any extension), and each time you enter again by visa exempt entry is a brand new entry starting another 30 day count. You are limited to 2 visa exempt entries a year via land, and there is no official limit on visa exempt air entries per year, but Immigration can always take your previous travel history into account for granting entry by visa exempt entry. Your question about consecutive days doesn't apply since each time you leave, you start over, so each time has to be a consecutive count of days.

You can only get an extension in Thailand. You can apply for a tourist visa before coming which is for 60 days as an alternative option. You can also get the 30 day extension for this visa.

You can enter via visa exemption. This is for 30 days and can be extended in Thailand for 30 more days. This is added on and you can apply for it once PER ENTRY.

If you leave Thailand your visa exemption stamp is cancelled. When you enter next time you get a new 30 day visa exempt stamp. You can again apply for a 30 day extension if you wish.

You can get 30 days on arrival get it extended for another 30 days at local immigration then you can fly out and come back and you’ll get another 30 days I’ve done this many times over the years with no problem or you could apply for a visa in uk

I did this a couple of times earlier this year and got stopped by immigration at Suvarnabhumi.

I recommend a visa appropriate to the time you plan on spending in Thailand.

everyone gets stopped at immigration when entering Thailand

It’s called processing your entry 🤣🤣🤣🤣

not everyone gets stopped, taken out of the queue, has to speak with multiple officers and gets told no entry...

If YOU didn’t look so suspicious by appearance you would not have a problem

In fact it’s obvious why you get stopped

Also on re entry you must have a flight ticket to show your leaving before the 30 days

, if they think you are misusing the visa system by being creative to avoid getting a (real) visa, the risk will be there to get stopped and denied entry. It highly depends on your travel history in Thailand, and the officer of the day...

You apply for the 30 days extention in Thailand not before you arrive. You can leave and re-enter for another 30 days visa exempt
