New to the group but have one question which you’ve probably had a million times so I apologise for that in advance!!

We are going to Thailand for just short of 90 days (early next year) what would be the recommended way to get a 90 day stay? If it’s a visa which one? leaving from the UK.

TLDR : Answer Summary
For UK passport holders planning to stay in Thailand for 90 days, the recommended approach is to enter on a 60-day visa exempt entry, which can then be extended for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. Alternatively, if you are over 50 years old and meet the income requirements, you could apply for a 90-day Non-O visa from the Thai embassy in the UK before your trip. This can be a cleaner option, avoiding the need for an extension once in Thailand.

60 days visa exempt then extend for 30 days for 1900 baht is by far the easiest. No visa required at all

Perhaps look at the Thai embassy’s website in the UK?

I am over 50 and want to come to thailand for 6 months, if I get a 90 day non 0 visa can I extend for another 90 or do I have to do a border run

@Lou *******
You can extend it for 12 months under the retirement Visa program otherwise you'd have to apply for a new one.

you can apply for the extension in Thailand at your local IO. To apply for another 90 day non - o, you have to apply from outside Thailand and get a new entry stamp

ok great 👌 can I apply whilst in Thailand?,for both whilst still in Thailand or go out and back in again

yes go for the 60-day VISA EXEMPT entry. Yes need exit from Thailand in 60 days. Possibly the airline may deny boarding as your return is 90-days with the airline you need to show a ticket out on day 60. Simply google onward travel and purchase on there. Its not expensive.

If you look well dressed are polite them immi won't usually ask.

I've always had the above, but haven't been asked for it once!! Yet!

As it suggests, get a visa. Cleanest way to do it.

This is from the embassy in Londons website. If you don’t want to bother with an onward ticket within 60 days or an 30 days extension of stay, you can also apply for a 90 days Non O visa at the embassy at home before you leave if you fulfil the requirements. You’ll need to be passed 50 years and have an income/pension min equal to 65K baht a month. (£1491). It’s probably cheaper in total and you’ll don’t need to spend time at the immigration for an extension.

In the UK they sell that single entry visa for £60 (2,600 baht approx). Depending on the office they would get an extension at you could be in and out in 30 minutes or so.

Ok, for visa exemption you’ll have to pay 1900 baht for the extension plus a (throw away) onward ticket within 60 days. With Non O you have 90 days at once and it’s excused from the onward ticket requirement. Just mentioned it as on option (I probably would have done myself).

UK passport holders get 60 days visa exempt on entry. You can extend that one time for a further 30 days at a local immigration office for 1,900 baht.

Sorry to jump on someone else’s post, but if you plan to spend 90 days on one the Islands, say Ko Samui, is there an office there to extend the final 30 days? or would you have to visit the mainland?

@Luke ******
Yes you can extend in Samui. However they like Jomtien and Koh Phangan require you to have 7 days or less on your current stamp to apply.
