TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler from the UK looking to stay in Thailand for 3 months has a couple of options for obtaining a visa. One suggestion is to arrive without a visa and take advantage of the visa-exempt entry for 45 days, followed by a 30-day extension and then a border run to reset the entry for another 45 days. Another option is to purchase a single-entry tourist visa through the Thai consulate in London, which grants a 60-day stay that can be extended once for an additional 30 days at an immigration office in Thailand.

OR come in with out buying any visa before you come, get stamped in free for 45 days on the visa exempt program, take the 30 day extension, then bounce out and back in at a land border to get a new 45 day visa exempt entry stamp and extend that for 30 days if you want as well. That gives you almost 150 days in country 🙂

Todd at what point do you re: arrange your return flight home and does mean you loose that flight or can you pay a little to change. I am still confused on this point.

Thanks!

immigration won't care, it's your airline that might be a problem. They may require you to show travel out of Thailand within the days you'll be stamped in for, so 45 days visa exempt or 60 days with a tourist visa. The simplest way to get around that is to rent a fully legit ticket to use when checking in. Google "onward travel ticket" for more information.

that's what I am doing for a near 5 month stay. just remind op that when he lands that is day1 so need to plan flights accordingly

buy a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in London online using the eVisa portal, come in get stamped in for 60 days and take the one 30 day extension you're allowed for 1900baht at the immigration office where you stay.

I’m not sure but is there also a 90 day visa??

90 Day visas are for retirement, married to a Thai, parent to a Thai etc. and have specific requirements

a tourist visa is valid for 90 days <- meaning you have that long to ENTER thailand and when you do you'll get stamped in for 60 days like everyone on a tourist visa
