Hi, my mother has booked her flight to land in Thailand on 26th September and to leave on the 26th October. She is a British passport holder so I believe she will get a 30 day visa exempt on arrival, but unless I’m mistaken her visa exempt will only be valid until the 25th October.

What would be the best thing to do in this situation?

1. Just overstay for the day, pay the 500 baht at immigration when she leaves and don’t worry about it.

2. By a tourist evisa before she leaves.

3. Get her a 30 day extension in country.

Are there any other options?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British passport holder planning to stay in Thailand for 30 days from September 26 to October 26 will enter on a visa-exempt basis, which is valid for 30 days, expiring on October 25. To avoid issues, it's recommended to either obtain a tourist visa before traveling or apply for a 30-day extension in Thailand for 1900 baht. Overstaying by one day could lead to a fine (about 500 baht), but there are risks involved, especially if stopped by authorities.

Same happened with me a few years ago. I was fined 500bht but it was dealt with very courteously. There's talk of extending the 30 days to 45 soon so it may not even be an issue.

I made the same mistake once. The IO, said 'don't do it again' and stamped me out normally, with no fine. If she is going to try that, make absolutely sure she gets to the airport in good time, if stopped by police on the street and checked, the consequences can be severe. Safest bet is to stomp up the ฿1900 for an extension, or get a tourist visa before she leaves home.

Yeah, I think that’s the best option. Don’t think my mother needs the hassle or worry of an overstay. I actually think a tourist evisa might be cheaper and we have plenty of time to apply

She doesn't want an overstay, get a Tourist visa before she comes. Then she has more flexibility if things change.
