TLDR : Answer Summary
The fine for overstaying a tourist visa in Thailand is 500 baht per day, with a maximum cap of 20,000 baht. If the overstay exceeds 90 days, the individual may face a ban from re-entering Thailand. It is recommended to apply for a visa extension instead of overstaying to avoid legal issues.

You can overcome the ban by simply reporting your passport lost in your home country and then apply for a new passport. The new passport will hve a different passport number and so not on the imm database.

If you're caught it's a 20,000 baht fine, but the good news is you're exempt from any further fines for five years!

If two months overstay then you may pay a fine at airport and exit but if you are caught in between then to IDC followed by all legal procedures , embassy involvement and finally extradited to home country

Gee everyone’s replies are so harsh!!! I overstayed my visa once a few years ago….because I was in hospital!!!!! You guys don’t know this person’s situation.
At the airport and still not very well - I was informed I’d overstayed, paid a fine and got on the plane, have been back many times since no dramas.
And go on keyboard warriors start trashing me!!! Knock yahselves out 🤣
so the hospital didn’t provide you with documentation relating to your hospitalization? I’m pretty sure you’re let off if your overstay is beyond your control.
Don't forget the Perp Walk. The 4 men put on my flight back to the UK by the police, I presume were over stayers. One was a grinning student type. One looked like an elderly hobo who had been quickly spruced up. The other two, I presume they were in the clothes they had on when arrested. One had manky t-shirt and shorts, the other was, bizarrely, in a cycling t-shirt and speedos. Except for the student type, they were all with long beards, and looked pretty thin, and dirty.
If you get checked by Police before getting to the Airport ( They use facerecognition from cctv and on patrolvehicels ), you will be jailed until first available flight out, and the new expensive ticket, you have to pay yourself
Yes, they have. And they've been checking visas left and right in Pattaya recently. Just follow the news and you'll frequently hear about people being arrested for overstay
All overstay fines are the same regardless of visa. 500₿ per day up to a maximum of 20,000 baht.
If you have any interaction with police while on overstay you'll be arrested and banned from Thailand. Or if you are 90 days or more overstay when you turn yourself in at the airport you'll also be banned from Thailand.
An overstay stamp in your passport may also affect your ability to enter Thailand or other countries in the future as well.
