I am looking at relocating to Thailand as I am ready to make the leap. I was more in touch with requirements and what not prior to recent events occurred. Can anyone fill me in on the ability to fly in via Bangkok or is the Phuket Sandbox route the only way in at present?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion primarily revolves around options for relocating to Thailand amidst COVID-19 restrictions. Participants suggest that both ASQ and the Phuket Sandbox are available for entry. While some recommend waiting for better conditions due to ongoing lockdowns and protests, others express that the current situation in certain areas, especially in the north, feels normal. It's advised that those wishing to travel check for the latest requirements and consider both options carefully. Some share their experiences during quarantine and mention the current state of tourism and business activities in Thailand.
Joel *******
Yes but you need to do 14 day ASQ quarantine. I suggest the group ASQ in Thailand
Ken ******
suggest to google search most update covid situation, quarantine etc, and what kind of businesses are likely not yet open

If things are related to family issues, I would not say anything. But things like, looking for a job, vacation, meeting my Thai girl fren, etc should be postponed for a month or two.

If you not an alcoholic and love the outdoors then now is a good time. I golf on mostly empty courses, swim in beautiful empty pools, and walk on lovely empty beaches. I did my quarantine in Bangkok back in January. Not a big problem. Come prepared with electronics and books.

@Gary ******************
where are you now playing golf? Courses are closed.

You can come to Bangkok providing you have all the appropriate paperwork and stay at a ASQ hotel or you can apply for the Sandbox choice but be aware these rules are changing daily
Klint ******
I would have normally never chosen to live in Thailand, but I’ve been here since the beginning of the pandemic and it’s been great. The Sandbox would allow you to get here and still enjoy it for awhile without mass tourism, so l would definitely recommend that option.
Brahim ******
Fly to get trapped there and quarantined...
Steve *******
You can do either Bangkok or the Phuket sandbox.

For me, I want to get out of Thailand and move to the US so badly!

@Kathy **********************
I hope you get to do. Good luck.

@Kathy **********************
If I were you I’d wait at least until October, Phuket is not the place to vacation as there is no transportation out, by air, sea or land only by cab, which costs a fortune, check Thai websites for updates, which changes almost daily

@Bernie *******
I’m not planning to go to Phuket but I’m so desperate to relocate to the states to reunite with my brother and nephew. This country is not a good place to live anymore.

It's a fantastic time to be in Thailand. (Although any time is I suppose). I would always go for the Phuket sandbox because being locked up in a room for two weeks is hell. Phuket is not my favorite place but because of Covid without the mass tourism I think I would enjoy it more than I would have two years ago. And then after that you can go anywhere. It's fantastic without the crowds, 100% like the alleged "good old days" just with better availability of coffee and croissants.
Steve **********
@Han *******
agree, don't have the mass tourist to contend with, but the % of venues open is sane as reduced tourism

I live in Chiangmai. 90% of shop's, bars, events, etc have been shut down. Thais returned to village or driving Grab.

Wait a year.

Now no Songkran, Loi Katong, Night markets, Parades, etc

Fear of variant has kept all indoors.
Falcon *******
dont go...go somewhere else.

not a better place for party goers. but totally nice for peace and nature. its still good here in Thailand. 🇹🇭😊😍

My self Non-vaccinated refuse to get vaccinated lived in Thailand for the last five winters no I’m off to Costa Rica Nicaragua and Panama hopefully everything will return to normal but I will not live in Canada another winter
Otto *********
For the time being it might be a clever idea to postpone comming to Thailand. Unless you want to get Covid and have no job.
Hielke ********
come to ko Samui everthing normal except bars closed
Gareth ********
I’m answer to your question, you can fly in to Bangkok and quarantine in Bangkok or Pattaya. You can also fly to Phuket and do the sandbox.
Steve ********
To be honest in the north east it's like nothing ever happened every where open every where sells beer eat out anywhere so it depends on what part Thailand your going to. Yes corvid is in every city and out of control but are shop still working

Daniel **********
Wait. Now is not a good time.
John **********
The country is on its knees. Not sure why someone would voluntarily come to this place in first place to be honest.

Thailand is a wonderful country. Yes...things are not good now but people moving to Thailand will help the economy. It's a great place.

@John *********
"Not sure why someone would voluntarily come to this place in first place to be honest."

Because Thailand, even if the situation is very difficult now, is heaven compared to real shitholes like Cambodia, where I lived until 4 months ago! That's why!
Duncan *******
I've never understood people's obsession with protests. It's Thailand - it's more unusual for there to not be protests about something. Basing a decision because "OMG the protests" is just bizarre. I was in Bangkok in 2013 for a few weeks during Occupy Bangkok when grenades at one point were being thrown around. It affected me in that it took 90 minutes in a tuktuk and 400 baht to get from MBK to Khao San Road. If you get upset about protests and what's in the media - Thailand isn't for you.
Han ********
@John *********
I really cannot understand this mindset. What Thailand are you living in? For most people it's a lot better than it used to be, especially retirees. Remember all the harping about 'the good old days'.. well this is extremely similar, without mass tourism, lower prices and also some of the downsides that people forget about, like not having 30 low cost flights every day.
John **********
@Han *******
meanwhile the people go destitute.

protests against monarchy, constitutional.change and removal of a PM for starters.

No different than in the US. Storming the capital building, almost storming the whitehouse, had to have the US military deployed to the capital to protect it. Burning down NYC, portland Oregon, accusations of corrupt elections. Currently there are motions to impeach 2 sitting US governors. Happing in the UK, South America, Malyasia, many places.

vastly different

, I can't be bothered discussing The US crackpots and whats going on in Thailand at the moment, these are totally different. Not at 1992 or 1976 levels for sure, but the direction of fhe protestets now in outright challenging the role of Monarch in Thailand is a huge shift. The utter mess of the economy and failed vaccine rollout IMO puts the country im a precarious position, as the only way that Juntas know is to silence critics. I just don't think Thailand is a place to be moving to at the moment, unless for a very good reason.
Kool *******
@Martin *******
don't believe everything the news tries to push down your throat. The protests are not what they are being presented as by the news, that by the way is owned, or controlled by Matichon LLC, that is owned by Thanathorn and his mother. They control or own all newspaper publications in Thailand. For the last year the protests have been reduced to just a few hundred diehard protesters that want to fight with the police. There are no more protests against the Monarchy. What is vastly different with these protesters than any other protest in the last 50 years, is that they are weekend protesters. They chose a Saturday, or Sunday to stage their protest at one of three different places now. The whole purpose of the protests now, and orchastrated by a very small group of people that provide the financing, is to entice the police to kill someone. I am a photojournalist. I actually go to these supposed protests, and on both sides. They are now simply a group of people that want to fight with the police, and others that want to watch this happen. I have pictures of some of these same people fighting with the police 7 years ago, but on the other side. These are not like past protests, and I've been covering them since 2003. These are weekend protesters that show up after work on a weekend day.

The vaccine situation is also being misrepresented by the same news outlet. Before this delta variant Thailand was recognized worldwide as in a tie with NZ as the best country in the world at containing this virus, and had already made plans, and went into partnership with Oxford university to develop and manufacture a vaccine in Thailand, and that happened at the fastest pace it could, by putting it under the umbrella of the Monarchy to eliminate all the red tape to get it done. Then this delta variant hit, with no one worldwide ready for it. Thailand before this variant was on track to develop, and manufacture vaccines in Thailand to vaccinate everyone based on the control they had on the virus before the delta variant. Other countries, that were not setting up to manufacture their own vaccines flooded the very few manufacturers with orders before the delta variant hit. Now, when Thailand, on schedule, started mass distribution and vaccinations on June 7th, they are on track to have everyone that can be vaccinated vaccinated by the end of the year. Before June 7th a little over 1million had been vaccinated, but now two months later 14 million have been vaccinated. Sure you'll say but that is only one shot. They haven't been fully vaccinated, forgetting, and again misinformed by the media, that the established timeframe between the first and second shot of Astrazenica is 12 weeks, meaning under international standards those vaccinated on, and after June 7th aren't due to receive their second dose until September. Now, the Chinese Sinovac vaccine only has one week delay before the second dose, so those showing as fully vaccinated have mostly received the Chinese vaccine, and for the number of doses that arrived from China, the numbers match up. You have to remember, no where in the world, with any of the vaccines, have children under 14 years of age been approved to receive any vaccine. So of the 64million+ people in Thailand less than 50 million of them are actually elligible to be vaccinated, and at the rate people are being vaccinated now, it will be done by the end of the year, if not sooner.

dude. How can u compare usa to Thailand right now. Usa has vaccines that work for free. Plasma Antibodies readily available it u get sick.. jobs.. etc. Thailand is a freaking mess.

Seems mild compared to 1992 when i flew from Vietnam after three weeks in caves and no news, landed Bangkok went Khoa Sarn to get some farang food and all hell broke loose, machine guns going off all over the place, molatovs.

Personally I would wait a bit longer if I was you, however I would probably choose dtandard ASQ because Sandbox has IMO too many variables. I did ASQ in June and couldn't fault the place I stayed in but would not do quarantinne unless it was a necessity to travel. I am currsntly in Chinag Mai, and places are open, but the bulk of places are closed. Many I doubt will ever open again. It's not worth coming here with the curre t restrictions, and the country is a mess. I'll be leaving this weekend, amd in a way I am glad. I'll be working out of Thaialnd for the fitst time in 16 years, but in a way looking forward to that.
Garrett ***********
@Mar***
Sandbox is a far better option than ASQ imo. I'm in phuket now, almost no restrictions other than having to wear a mask everywhere. Is quite, slow, and a bit boring with many things closed, but wouldn't choose ASQ over it.

I think alot of people ,myself included are looking to relocate to support loved ones,especially important during these difficult times.

Some people might simply want a quiet life,to live monastically. Well away from the action.

A member who recently did asq in phuket reports that many businesses are infact operating, including many restaurants, retailers even live music.

If you were looking to enter via Phuket (tourist visa) and switch to (retirement visa) in Bangkok with a firm, and then travel on to be with someone in yet another province...do you have to do 2 weeks quarantine in the last two provinces (4 weeks total) after you leave Phuket? Thanks in advance

@Johnny *********
Why not do the retirement visa in the province you will be living? Am I assuming correctly or are you just travelling on from Bangkok on a temp basis?
