TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around expatriates flying from the UK to Thailand, particularly on January 31st and early February. Several commenters mention their travel plans and share updates about current restrictions, flight cancellations, and the process of changing their flights and Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) arrangements due to a recent UK-Netherlands travel ban. Key concerns include obtaining new Certificates of Entry (COE) and the challenges of securing refunds from airlines while trying to adjust to the evolving travel situation.

Does anyone know if i can change me asq easily? I fly on sunday but ive just been offered an asq for 10k cheaper.
you probably won’t regret it mate as you pay for what you get. 15nights in a cheaper hotel isn’t always a winner. I’m sure all ASQ on soi 11 would be of high standard.
booked Siam Manadrina next to airport mate , deposit 4500thb and have a roof top gym area. Total 43k keep in touch mate, might see you on sukhumvit road for a beer once we are freeeee.
quality. Mine was 43k too, sounds like the average price for a half decent gaf. We cant go out anyway tho mate bcs we are flying from uk😂😔
Sounds good to me.

Ray P Lee ive switched to thai airways. Will need to wait 2 months for a klm refund i think. But yeah that info did come from them so please let him know. Emirates, thai airways or qatar are recomended
Does your friend know that there is a travel ban now on uk-netherlands. I was on that flight too. But the women told me the flight will be cancelled so i requested a refund. Could you let him know so he could possibly change his flight. That info came from KLM themselves

Thanks for that info. Was it ok to change flights with all existing docs, or will need to resubmit?
i called the airline as soon as the travel ban was announced. She then insisted that my flight on the 31st will be cancelled. So she then submitted a refund request for me and said the refund could take up too two months which is ballocks. And then i just went ahead and booked a new flight. Changed my coe also
total bollocks but guess all these last minute changes are testing on the airlines and accumulated requests to refund...was it just the Coe u needed to change?
yeah i guess we do need to consider that. There will be understaffed to be fair, you can always request your bank to attempt a chargeback too, Yeah just needed to change coe as flying same day. Also inform your asq as they will need to send you a new letter with a new flight on and etc
the original flight was Saturday n my friend. now wamts to switch to Sundays Thai flight which he didn't know about but just tkd him thanks to your post so maybe he needs to look into other docs to change
thanks buddy appreciated...your post has saved a person's trip cause a cancelled flight will need to do the whole process again as well as messing up asq and all those added expenses. Cheers again.

can any one tell me how many days l can get on tourist visa from thail embassy in UK thanks
I guess you know everyone in this group personally and the reasons why they are traveling... You know if the peoples here in the UK follow the f..kin rules maybe we not be in a big s..t as we are...
l will only travel when l allowed to we are in a mess because goverment has let us down from day one the list is endless cov 19 is man made to control people world is finished as we know it
some of us have specific reasons for leaving the country, and also no choice but to leave, therefore it's essential travel. We all have different circumstances and a little bit of empathy goes a long way. Hope you are happy wherever you are <3

the 45 day visa do l get that at Bangkok Airport or thail embassy UK cheers
not sure where you're getting insurance from but it shouldn't be that expensive. Check the groups, plenty of posts on insurance, I got mine through Safety Wing and it was approx $350 for two people for 3 months.
Good luck to you all who are going. I want to but no way willing to spend my birthday in February stuck in quarantine alone, so another time it will have to be
I’d love to know what the name of this visa was, the current options seem like they are there on the table, take it or leave it sorta options, no leeway. The communications from the London embassy is to get your 30 day top up, and then go home. If there’s some generous extensions happening over there, I guess I won’t find the rest of this process as stressful 😂.
I’m going on April 8th mate , planning on 5 months. How about you? The requirements for the stv have been a ballache, so I’ve been asking around and seeing how people are jumping the hurdles. Tbh, I’d happily just get the TR visa and see how that goes, but I can’t be arsed waking up one morning , reading the Thai news, announcing they want all amnesty tourists gone. I’ve been tracking the news over the past year and Its mostly been drama that I can’t be doing with 🙈
i feel you mate. I am flying on sunday with thai airways. Im doing the visa extempt to start with the 30 day extension. If you need any info or whatever you can DM me, the great thing about the exemption option is that its all very quick. If you have options then its a good way to do it. But i also think the visa your trying to get is even better. However like you said maybe its to much stress man
you’ll be a couple months ahead of me, would be greatful to keep us posted on how you’re getting on, I asked the same question earlier about travelling from the uk under lockdown but didn’t get many decent responses, also having a bit of a heads up on visa extensions would be a big help 👌 yeah mate, there is a bit of stress involved, the requirements basically mean that I’m stuck to the same hotel throughout. But I’d just be glad to get out there at the moment 👌
no problem what so ever mate. I am considering started a youtube channel in asq to pass the time as well. Im gonna try and treat it as a 'good experience'😂
hey there 👋 do you have any tips for acquiring the STV? I’m currently in the process of applying for it, and it’s been a little stressful. Did the Thai embassy ask to see a return flight booking? Or happy to see one way?
hey there, I was stressed too when submitting everything. I had to have everything booked including ASQ, flights, accommodation for the remaining time after quarantine, bank statements, health insurance.
I wasn;t required to have return flights booked, but I haven't done the COE yet. Let me know if you need any more info, happy to help ;)
I will be booking ASQ , flights, insurance and long term hotel this week, currently in contact with them all, took some time and patience 😅 Was getting stressful because I was hoping to just have a hotel booking for the first 3 months and then look for a different accommodation in time for my visa extension, but the embassy today told me that the accommodation dates need to be for the whole duration of your stay in the country,
it kinda sounded like they may need the return flight proof to know how long i plan to stay for exactly , but could be wrong. Thanks 😃 I’m sure I will have more questions over the next few weeks haha
keep thinking that by getting a visa exempt , I’ll have to go home after a couple of months, don’t think that’s worth the cost/time in quarantine tbh, although everyone has different circumstances, so I don’t judge those that do it.
if you look at the current practice, people on tourist visas are going out there, hoping to survive by amnesty extension after amnesty extension, I’d rather not live like that tbh. It’s only a matter of time before they stop the allowances (as nobody is technically stranded in Thailand anymore 😂) and you haven’t got the option to do visa runs.
The maximum you can stay as a tourist seems to be 3 months unless you have the STV or convert it, but I don’t apply to any of the others as I’m not older, unmarried, don’t work/volunteer or school out there.
im not talking about visa emnesty extension. My friend had 75 days visa exemption. And hes now got a 3 month visa through a visa agency and they also gave him options of a year😂. In that time you could easily get a job that gives you a work permit or whatever you do..everyones situations are differant though. Luckily i am quite blessed.
All I did was work out how many days I had left on the visa after the quarantine and booked my Airbnb/apartment for that time. I thought for sure they would require more than just the basic print out, but apparently not.
I use Best Onward Flight for proof of onward travel if you need a super cheap way to sort it.
does that mean you’re planning to stay for the full 9 months? So you didn’t attach a return flight to your stv application? Yeah it seems Airbnb is the best for current circumstances, some websites wouldn’t let me book more than 30 days which leaves us all a bit limited. what’s best onward flight? Dummy tickets?
i am going on the 45 day visa exemption. I will then extend by 30 days over there. And possibly more after that. A couple of months at the very least. :)
sounds brilliant. I had my flight booked last feb then broke my leg. Then lockdown. I have a condo there because family live in phuket. I'm really missing it.
I just flew from the uk , and has to be business the airport staff checked documents and then the airport is full with police bro checking make sure you have some paper work
yes. Been tough though as I live on my own. Phukets a great place there's still some good stuff going on. Beach bbqs, nice chill out beach places like Layan, Surin and Bang Tao.
You should only travel if you have a legally permitted reason to do so. Up to you if you want to break the law or not. If you have a good reason, there really should be no reason to ask or seek confirmation here.
I figure they will have to put me up in a hotel if they chose to do that as I have no home to go to. Plus it may be a little different for me as I have an AUS passport too.
Foreign nationals will undergo 14 days of mandatory state quarantine at a government-designated facility, or a facility under the Ministry of Public Health supervision at their own expense. That is what I seen on Gov website
