What should I know before flying to Phuket under the Sandbox program?

Hello,

since there a no other options, I'll do Phuket sandbox. I understand I'll have to book and pay everything upfront in order to apply for the Thailandpass.

First question, what is flying with thai nowadays? Are they reliable? Plane is crowded or empty? I'm flying from Frankfurt.

Uploading docs to the Thailandpass site, screenshots and JPEG sufficient?

How long on average will it take to get thaipass approved?

Better to book a Sandbox package or separately?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is planning to visit Phuket under the Sandbox program and has several questions regarding travel logistics. They inquire about the reliability and current conditions of Thai Airways flights from Frankfurt, the documentation requirements for the Thailand Pass application, and the average approval time for the pass. Multiple commenters have shared their experiences, indicating that using screenshots for documentation is acceptable and that the Thailand Pass can be approved the same day if done correctly, although it could take up to 7 days. They discuss flight experiences, mentioning fluctuating occupancy rates and COVID-19 precautions on board. Additionally, there's a suggestion regarding booking SHA Plus hotels and PCR tests, emphasizing the need for direct flights to Phuket without layovers in Bangkok.

Currently in Sandbox on day 5. Flew Turkish Airlines from Istanbul directly to Phuket. Plane was oddly 99% foreigners, and 1% thai. Was maybe 85% full (some people were able to get 2 people in a center row of 4, so they got to lay down over 2 seats.

Fairly smooth process, once you look back into it:

1) insurance (insubuy patriot international, cost me $130 for 3 months, but depends on your age/country/gender)

2) go to agoda, search 'sha plus +' and you'll have plenty of options to book

3) flight booking

4) did not need an outbound flight, but I had one via onwardticket com, was $12 usd

5) in thaipass there's a link to prepay for the pcr at the airport plus day 5 pcr test, it is required to pay, and pick your location for testing in phuket

-- upload all into thaipass. Everything needs to be uploaded as a screenshot/image. At the end you can upload the pcr receipt at the end and it can be a pdf.

I did it jan 2, and gf had to call in to push it ahead for a departure jan 8. Got it on jan 6.

1.5 days before, did a pcr test. Just in case, if it there was some delay on the results, or it was positive, I could try to cancel/reschedule the flight. Maybe also possible to reschedule the hotel too.

In Phuket it was actually also pretty quick, 30 minutes from off the airplane to out of the airport. They check your docs right out of the plane, you go through immigration, pick up you luggage, and outside the airport they do your pcr test, then they had not sure if they were touts, but just gave them the hotel name. Was 750thb for 2 in private van to Patong beach area.

I have flown from LHR on Thai Airways 2 times since late October 2021. The first time, the flight was barely

full. They fed you as usual, and gave alcohol during the first meal time, but no alcohol after. You stayed in the seat you were checked in to. Everyone was aware of people's space, which was easy to do when you had a whole row of 10 seats to yourself. But it was relaxed. It was a nice flight.

The 2nd flight, was jam packed, and there was no sense of any type of covid precautions being taken by most of the passengers. Many passengers were blatently ignoring any type of covid protocol, and about halfway through the flight, you got the sense that the Thai crew had given up trying to maintain order. I got off that flight thinking if anyone on that flight was heavy covid positive, we ALL were going to be. lol

Taking screenshots will automatically convert to jpeg for you

Done correctly you should receive your Thailand pass the same day, put plan for upto 7 days

Not sure what you mean by sandbox package, as the Phuket sandbox you have to book your SHA plus hotel separately to your pcr tests and transport from airport to hotel

I wouldn’t recommend doing that, I know someone personally who used one and I took a long time to get there pass back, causing unnecessary stress and someone posted in here this morning that they still hadn’t received there’s back after using one
