 I have lots of experience with Thai lawyers over 20 years, do you think they are infallible? You can rent land in your own name...what you can't do is business (sole trader/partnership) in your own name here, that must be done via a company. You have mixed the issues.

 rubbish. You can own land via a company and/or lease the land (30 years max duration by statutory law) in your own name.
