Because my girlfriend, who later became my wife, was with me! If I had been alone, I think they would have forced me to return to Italy

I can confirm that it's all true! In February, immigration didn't want to let me enter Thailand! They told me to stubbornly... after ten years of always entering with a tourist visa, that's enough! They made me sit aside and after 2 hours of insistent pleas from my girlfriend who had come to Italy with me, they granted me entry on the condition that I got married as soon as possible! So on March 28th (the very day of the earthquake, πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) I got married in Bangkok! On April 17th, I asked Udon Thani immigration for a marriage visa! It was approved on the 30th! On July 7th, I asked for the annual extension, which is under consideration! I have to go back to immigration on August 27th! Postscript: Immigration in Bangkok didn't ask for any bribes! The immigration staff in Udon Thani are very friendly and kind.

I agree with you! For tourism, I think Vietnam is better than Thailand right now! In Thailand, in tourist areas, especially in high season, prices have become too high, too many tourists, and some of them are scum! Private facilities offer excellent service, but the country itself doesn't offer good service: poor electricity, disgusting and dirty roads, flooding after a 20-minute downpour, police trying to extort money from you, and if you have a problem with a local, even if you're right, the police will prove you wrong! Vietnam is cleaner, cheaper, less chaotic, and even in tourist areas, you can find a little beach where you're alone. Above all, the police don't bother you, and if a local causes you problems, they protect you.

Read carefully Mr. know -it-All before accusing me to post false information! Or do you Know more than the thai foreigner minister?

This is bullshit! There's no automatic process! Issuing a visa or extending it is always at the discretion of the officer you submit your application to! This applies not only to Thailand but to any country in the world. In fact, the Schengen visa regulations state that submitting correct documentation does not automatically grant you a visa, and even possessing a valid visa doesn't automatically grant you entry into the country; it's always at the discretion of the border officer! You, who boast of knowing everything, what risks would the immigration officer risk if he denied you a visa?

Of course you have to pay for 2000 baht of shit, you risk having to separate from your wife! I'd really like to see what he would have done! I'm telling you, either he paid and kept quiet or he didn't pay, they would have denied him the visa and he would have started crying like a little girl, he would have gone to a lawyer, he would have spent more than 100,000 baht and it wouldn't have solved anything! So even if it's unfair, screw you and pay.

Don't be a moralist. I'd really like to see what you would have done in his place. You would have risked having to leave the place you live and your wife for 2,000 baht of shit! Instead, you would certainly have paid too! Unfortunately, there is no law that protects you and automatically guarantees you a visa if you produce certain documents! Each visa issuance is at the discretion of the immigration officer! So even if it's unfair, it's better to pay.
Gianpaolo ******
It's obvious they want to extort money from you. By law, you're not required to pay! But you should pay because they're the ones who decide whether to grant you a visa! There's a rule of life that says when you're the hammer, strike; when you're the anvil, stay put. In this case, you're the anvil and they're the hammer.
