I applaud the guy for seeking out advice too. Many, many, many people live in Thailand on that amount or less. In fact most Thais do. There are 1000s of youtube clips on living on $1000. His advice: $1500 social security? How embarrassingly low. Sorry. Maybe not quite ready for retirement. That's condescending.

There have been flights the connection in Singapore, i.e., Singapore to Chiang Mai.You might check there.
