TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses issues with TransferWise (Wise) sending money to Bangkok Bank, where prior transfers went through KASIKORN Bank instead. Users suggest contacting Wise to ensure direct transfers and to clarify the process for showing funds as coming from overseas, particularly for immigration and retirement visa purposes. Key advice includes confirming the transfer method as SWIFT and the importance of consistent monthly transfers for immigration requirements.

Did you select Bangkok Bank? Did you use the correct branch and account number? šŸ¤” I have never had a problem with my transfers.
Maya *******
Use neema app

I had this happen in November and the transfer was tagged as ā€˜Interbank Transfer via SMARTā€™.

The PDF file from Detail showed the transfer from USA was sent to Kbank then to Bangkok Bank.

I went to Immigration with all 12 months Detail PDF printouts from WISE which shows the transfer path. Everything went okay but you never know. I know they always look for FTT foreign transfer in the bank book.

Now itā€™s more tricky using WISE. It depends what time and day of the week you try to send money.

If if ever says ā€˜money will be received in secondsā€™, cancel that transaction or the transfer will come directly from a Thailand bank and just say TRF (Transfer)

can DEEMONEY show up as IT? if no.guarantee from transferwise. i remember once i asked them online, reply was: if they have funds in thailand,then they usually just transfer that local fund to your thai bank without IT

If you want to show proof your funds came from overseas always use a wire transfer and never transfer wise. In fact transfer wise recommends you do a wire transfer
Scott *******
So basically šŸ˜‚ ā€¦. If I see Wise do not do it as a swift transfer, itā€™s best to use my bank to transfer?
Srini ******
@Scott ******
Yes a wire transfer is the best proof that the funds came from overseas.
Scott *******
Interesting and thank you Srini. I have noticed only recently, that Wise have started doing swift transfers. But I donā€™t think this was always the case when transferring to a Thai bank.
Srini ******
@Scott ******
Yes we had that unfortunate experience where the bank wouldn't certify this came from foreign sources even though I showed them my wise transactions which clearly showed it was taken from a US bank. Bangkok Bank was very inflexible even though I showed them proof. When I contacted wise back 2 years ago they said to use a wire transfer because they use local banks to complete transfers
Scott *******
Thank you for the advice Srini. I have been a customer of Wise for over 15 years. I have made some huge transfers when purchasing property and cars and have never had a problem. My latest transfer was sent by swift. Is that considered as being wired? šŸ¤” And for what reason do I have to prove where my money came from? Thank you in advance
Srini ******
@Scott ******
oh if you're trying to get money in for a retirement visa they need to see the funds came from a foreign source but if you don't care then that's fine You can use wise. We had a problem where the bank said the funds weren't from a foreign source since wise uses local banks to do the transfers so it doesn't show that it came via a swift transaction all the time It depends on the amount of the transaction as well I was told.
Srini ******
A SWIFT transfer is a Wire transfer
Jimmy ******
You can use Wise too. Just make sure to send it as a Swift transfer
Srini ******
@Jimmy *****
is the Swift a New thing with wise? They told me in the past to do a wire transfer.
Scott *******
Sorry, but what is a wire and can it be done using wise?
Srini ******
@Scott ******
Wire transfer is what your bank will do. It's the safest way to prove your money came from outside the country. Don't risk using wise.. It's very hard to deal with them. They have a lot of complaints against them. When it works it works great When it doesn't work you're going to be in big trouble with them since they will not answer any of you emails.

I use Wise for all my transfers from the UK to my Bangkok Bank account. You have to contact Wise and ask them to tag your transfer you won't get your money in seconds you will get it the next day obviously later over weekends and holidays. Every transfer I've made with Wise over the last 3 years shows as an International Transfer in my Thai account wether its 30quid or 300 never had a problem.
Alan *******
Check this group out, there are a lot of posts about your problem. Wise have tagged my account and my monthly funds now go direct to the Bangkok Bank, not via another bank and shows as an International Transfer. They still say they can't guarantee something could go wrong, so I send them a reminder about the tag every month just before I transfer.

Do you actually have to show the transfer of 64k baht each month or show an average of 64k per month. Meaning if i sent 120k this month and 10k next month. As long as it averages out to 64k per month for the year. Is that acceptable
Mel ********
@Dan *********
65K Minimum each and every month I believe.

I donā€™t know if this applies to all, but for my experience when not showing as international transfer ā€œwise ā€œ explained the following. I am with kasikorn, if there is a technical problem paying to kasikorn then wise will pay into my ā€œsister bankā€ which is Bangkok bank, and the transfer BKK to Kasikorn ,so it shows as an internal ( to Thailand ) transfer. Hence no good for your visa application. Even if you are with BKK bank the reverse could happen using kasikorn. I spoke with wise and they said it was done to ensure the transfer got to me as soon as possible, also in the future they would do whatever possible to ensure it goes direct to my kasikorn account. Since then it has been ok. If you have a moth that this has happened there is a way out of itā€¦

@Mel *******
It doesn't have to be 65k. For instance it could be 12 monthly payments of say 30k making 360k for the year and then you would have to provide 440k lump sum to make it up to 800k.
David ***********
@Tony ********
Most offices won't let you use the combined method any more.
Mel ********
@Tony ********
ok matey.
Alan *******
@Dan *********
no, it must be the required amount each month and it's 65,000 baht. 1,000 mightn't sound much, but Immigration won't like it.
Ursula *********
@Henrik ***
Right, now I get it. Thanks!
Ursula *********
@Alan ******
I know this is not about the transfer itself but: If you maintain say 400'000 in the account, the monthly transfer amount can be like 32'500, right?
Henrik ****
@Ursula ********
, yes and no. For retirement, you will need EITHER 65k THB each month (not average but each month) OR 800k for 3 months before application and 400k THB the rest of the year. A combination might be acceptable at many/most immigrations.
Ursula *********
@Henrik ***
oh... and after that year, back to 800'000?
Henrik ****
@Ursula ********
, yes, every time you are asking for an extension, you will have to have the 800k THB for 3 months before application, and also prove the 400k THB for all other months.
Ursula *********
@Henrik ***
OK, thank you!

i was just checking Iā€™m on the Thailand elite now for 5 yrs but was thinking of doing the retirement visa after that

There was a slight problem with WISE awhile ago. I queried them not showing international transfer on one occasion. Response was that they cannot 100% guarantee that it will show as International transfer (IT).

If it doesn't show as 'IT' I would suggest send it straight back from thai account to UK or whatever account via DeeMoney, then back via Wise again. Hopefully it will show as 'IT' then, as it did with mine. Timing is crucial though to get it to show during the month. Don't get stressed about it, we can't control everything.
Chris ****
I thought Wise worked with Bangkok to show money came from outside Thailand?
Garrett ***********

Every so often there's an issue like this.
Charles ********
Contact Wise customer service and discuss with them. They can change transfer to swft instead of local transfer. The fees will be different and will take longer.

@Charles *******
SWIFT is required for immigration purposes? I am considering marriage visa so this will be good to know.
Garrett ***********
@Ter***
No, not for a Non-O based on marriage. Non-Os based on retirement require the money to come from abroad.
Nguyen ****
@Garrett **********
how about Non-O guardian visa? Is there requirement that money comes from aboard? Thanks
