Are there direct flights from the USA to Chiang Mai (CNX) now?

Curious if anyone has recently flown internationally from the USA direct to CNX? (I know it is supposed to be possible, but I am not finding an airline to book it for less than the price of a mortgage on a small house.) I'm wondering if it will improve after June 1st? Or is this a user error? Lol

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query regarding direct flights from the USA to Chiang Mai (CNX) reveals that there are currently very few international options available. Most travelers note the necessity of flying into Bangkok (BKK) and then taking a domestic flight to CNX due to a lack of direct flights. Participants also mention high ticket prices and changes in flight availability due to global circumstances, such as the closure of Russian airspace and increased overall travel costs. They suggest booking a single ticket through to CNX to avoid separate baggage allowances, and some airlines with transits through Singapore or Taipei may provide options after certain dates.

If you can wait unit August, EVA will again (maybe) allow transit flights and you can fly to CNX via Taipei. Russian airspace being closed is causing a disruption in flight options and prices, I flew back to USA in early May via DOHA and the flights were full and the airport was jammed. Prices are about 50% higher than pre covid, maybe some moderation late summer but likely to remain high for a long time

Don’t confuse non-stop flights with direct flights. They are completely different. There are none to Thailand now anyway TG used to have nonstop from LAX-BKK. Probably never happen again it is a low yield vacation market

The most efficient transit was KE flight to CNX from ICN Hope that comes back soon.

Ok to clarify, I'm aware of necessity of stops along the way, and possibly even transit through BKK, but in the past I could transit through (for example) Korea or Japan direct to CNX. Even if transit through BKK, I'm hoping to avoid dealing with BKK and having to pay luggage fees due to switching from international luggage allowance to domestic luggage restrictions. I've been told CNX was now open, but having difficulty booking a flight. Didn't know if this was just a timing issue or ...

If you buy a ticket through to CNX via which ever stopovers and transits, as long as it’s the same booking there is no issue with baggage. If your international leg allows you 30kg then the internal leg will honour that.

However if you buy a ticket through to BKK and a separate ticket to CNX then you would have issues with baggage allowances.

There's not even a direct flight from the US to Thailand, and hasn't been for years.

I flew from Mexico city to koh samui last February.

Mexico to Dallas , Dallas to Doha, Doha to Bangkok and Bangkok to koh samui . 1088 dollars 2x 23 kg luggage . Qatar airways. 32 hours 🙏😀

I don’t recall there ever being direct flights from USA to CNX. You’ll probably need to fly to BKK, then take a domestic airline (eg - Thai Smile, which has several flights each day and reasonable fares). Good luck.

There’s very, very few international flights arriving in Chiang Mai, so that's your first problem.

Gas prices are sky high around the world and plane tickets everywhere are 2-3x more than they were in the last few years.

Probably not going to change in the near future.

Fly into Bangkok and then make your way to Chiang Mai. But that will still probably be expensive.
