my home branch is in Bangkok. Will they generate the letter or can my local branch produce it? Apologies if I am asking too much.

Yes. Money was in in late November but I only arrived mid December and Prachinburi office seem to be telling that I have to be in country 2 months before applying for the one year extension of stay.
