In Thailand I used an IDL, read it, IDL can get you a real license not copy of your home license. Don’t be fooled you rent what you want, but it’s all on you if you get in a MVA without correct license. Insurance denies claim, & you’re hosed especially as a foreigner. You have to live in these countries to have paradigm beyond a tourist. Do what you want.

John MarriottBig mistake. I would get a motorcycle license in Thailand. First if you do not have a motorcycle specific license and involved in a crash. Your insurance won’t cover you, you will be responsible and made to pay regardless of fault. There are mates lying in hospitals for long term care, cannot leave country until their bill is paid. That’s just Thailand. I know Vietnam police expect tourist to not have a Vietnam license and is a cash cow, multiple tickets a day. Depends on other factors, if you cover up or put your Thai girl at the handlebars.

Your Thai drivers license is not valid in Vietnam. I know about the ASEAN agreement but Vietnam changed its decision. You must have a Vietnam license or you know what will happen. Maybe she drives the bike in Vietnam.

I built a small house and two bunglalows. Nothing says you cannot build your own home. No permits needed. At least being GC. In time you adapt here, realize it not easy to cool the American jets. I stay busy enough. Too easy to 🍺 and get fat here. Fitness has been my thing to get me out of the house. I paddle board a lot too. When I am really bored I travel around SE Asia.
