1. There are no new rules about getting a one year extension of stay based on employment. If he's a "special lecture" or whatever, he'll be fine.

2. I highly doubt the school is using an agent to get a backdoor visa/ extension of stay in Nakhon Nowhere. Being a "special lecturer" is a valid job.

3. There has been no changes to the work permit laws, and he can continue being a "special lecturer" as normal.

HOWEVER...

Thais do not like firing people directly, and try to pass the blame to another person. If this person works for an elementary or high school, and one of the parents found out he does not have a degree, the parent would threaten to pull the child out. I did that at my son's school. Unlike in the west, the parents pay for the child's education.

If I was your friend, I would assume he is getting fired, the school will try to blame the immigration office, and to make plans to leave in March/April when the school year is over.

People from HongKong CAN enter on a visa exempt, if they request it on entry. I did peek at her profile, and she MAY be from Hong Kong or holding a Hong Kong passport.

Good catch!

I updated my response below.

> visa free passport and I’m allowed 30 days of stay.

I'm assuming the poster is entering on a 30 day visa exempt.

Shouldn't matter. All nationalities who can enter on a visa exempt can get the 30 day extension of stay based on tourism.

>In case I want to stay longer, can I extend?

Yes. You can get a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism IF you enter on a visa exempt. You will need the following documents submitted to the local immigration office:

1. The applicant’s passport and a copy of:

a. The data “picture” page.

b. The most recent visa (if applicable).

c. All entry stamps or extension of stay (if applicable) since arrival.

d. The departure card (“TM 6”) that should be stapled in the passport.

2. The extension of stay application form (“TM 7”).

3. A copy of the submitted Notification of Residence of Foreigners form ("TM 30”).

4. 2x passport sized (4cm by 6cm) photos.

5. 1,900 THB processing fee.

This advice only applies for people who enter on a visa exempt. See the attached list for the approved countries.

If you are entering on a Visa on Arrival, OR Bilateral Agreement, you do not qualify for this extension of stay.

If you are entering from a Hong Kong passport, you will need to ask passport control to stamp you in as visa exempt (Show them the list below).

When does the first extension of stay expire?
Benjamin ******
@Johnny ****
If he entered on a single entry tourist visa (that's good for 60 days), he can get one 30 day extension of stay based on tourism at Changwattana immigration office.
