yes. Immigration had a good laugh. She was talking THB, they were thinking USD đ€Ł I know the rule, I wouldnât carry that much USD. Dropped my wallet on a bus in transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow. Not much cash and was able to recover the wallet in full. Donât need carry much cash on a plane.
They issue the Green Card after 1st entry, SSA will issue a SSN and card. Upon 1st entry they took her to interview room and had me go to baggage claim to wait. She said they were quite friendly and polite. He did ask her how much cash she was carrying and she said about 10 or 15 thousand. He and another woman Imm officer said âwhat? USD?â She said no Thai Bath, and they all had a good laugh, then said âwelcome to Americaâ
Iâve always kept a US address on my US bank accounts. (Many wonât accept a foreign address nor phone number). I use an eSIM with a US number to get access codes. I did file for SS while living here in Thailand and use my Thai address as residence but I keep my deposits going to a financial institution in the US. I received mailing from SS here and still have to fill out and return âproof of lifeâ form every year. Reason I used foreign for SS is because since â98 been living abroad and filed taxes as foreign resident There is really no bank mail to worry about as everything is paperless anyway. Any mail that does come through to my son is just scanned to me and most of the time is just junk mail.
