this is only needed when your landlord or host let's you have his I.D. card copy (signed) and blue housebook copy (signed), to do the TM30 registration at the Immigration by yourself. The easier way is, the landlord does the registration by himself, together with you, and registers for the Online TM30 notification, then shares the login and password with you for notifications of future entries when you come from abroad
Teun Van de Goor I said you need the owner for the REGISTRATION. You can do the reporting by yourself anytime if the owner lets you have his login data and password. I would kindly ask him to do so, because then neither him nor you will have to worry about it next time you return from abroad
when registering online, I remember vaguely that the number of the blue housebook of the owner is required. So, yes, you need the owner involved at least by that bit, in order to register the address successfully
you must be aware that you have to use the consulate which is serving the area of your residence. You cannot ue any other consulate. You can always use the Embassy in Washington D.C.
I guess, if you show up in person (consider it to be a good way) and have proof of finances over 5000 USD plus in a bank account, there will be no question for employment. You could simply say that you are doing an unpaid sabbatical. Consulates or Embassies make up their own requirements, and I have often noticed that some of them are very inconsistent, they explain their "rules" on their websites void of logic, but there still are "requirements" . .. Emails or phone calls are useless, thousands of affected people will confirm. Maybe you shoukld consider a trip, be it 10 hours or not, make the best of it
for entry through immigration, you fill out the TM6 arrival & departure card, not a TM9. And the advice the Embassy gave you, is okay. You would not be asked for a flight out of Thailand within the admitted stay period, when you have a visa
