What Should I Do If I Can't Provide an Employment Verification Letter for My METV Application in Chicago?

Does anyone have any experience applying for an METV at the consulate in Chicago? Per the website it lists an employment verification letter as a requirement. I'm retired, but not old enough for a visa based on retirement, so cannot provide one. I've tried calling for days now and never get anyone to answer. I also tried emailing them and have not gotten a response. I'd like to mail the application and requirements in and avoid 10 hours of driving but don't want any delays or rejections for not having all the requirements. Does anyone know if it will be accepted without that? Or if I can provide something else to satisfy it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking guidance on applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) at the Thai consulate in Chicago, particularly regarding the requirement for an employment verification letter, which they cannot provide due to being retired. Responses suggest alternatives like demonstrating sufficient finances or applying closer to their travel date.

And I am sure you are aware that having the METV in your passport is no guarantee Thai Immigration will allow your entry upon arrival.

Your past immigration entry history is yours and the Thai Immigration Officer will see it all upon arrival and decide.

Good Luck.

I don't think you need the employment verification letter, however if you do apply for the METV, get it as close to your departure date as possible; the clock starts winding down as soon as the visa is in your passport

I guess, if you show up in person (consider it to be a good way) and have proof of finances over 5000 USD plus in a bank account, there will be no question for employment. You could simply say that you are doing an unpaid sabbatical. Consulates or Embassies make up their own requirements, and I have often noticed that some of them are very inconsistent, they explain their "rules" on their websites void of logic, but there still are "requirements" . .. Emails or phone calls are useless, thousands of affected people will confirm. Maybe you shoukld consider a trip, be it 10 hours or not, make the best of it

read Chicago's requirements, get all doc's n a row, and you should be fine

you must be aware that you have to use the consulate which is serving the area of your residence. You cannot ue any other consulate. You can always use the Embassy in Washington D.C.

thanks. I'm thinking I'm going to have to bite the bullet and make the drive. I see from a previous post that the New York consulate seems to be just as unresponsive to calls and emails. I've asked questions on here before and was told to call the consulate😄
