It also seems like immigration staff at local offices get shuffled every few months, so even when you think you know everyone in the office, you probably won't soon enough.

as a note, DMK charged me the 200 baht service fee for not bringing my completed form and visa photo on Friday. The month before they didn't charge the 200 baht additional fee.

The "waiver" is probably referring to the teaching license waiver that Thai schools get in order to legally employ foreigners without a teaching degree. They must apply for this waiver before they can apply for your work visa, but it isn't directly visa related.

no, they wanted 3 bank statements showing you've got the balance on hand. Now, that's just the Hanoi consulate, other places will vary.

we've got a plan for moving forward, thankfully. It involves, among other things, moving to a country with friendlier visa policies in September.

hubby was flying solo on this since I had to be back at work this morning. I don't think he pushed back simply because he has a hard time keeping those details straight...he left and messaged me for next steps.

we did carefully review the requirements. Unfortunately "evidence of bank balance" clearly meant something different to that particular officer. I shared the specific request for evidence they made in the hope that it would help others. We thought one month's bank statement would be sufficient to demonstrate adequate funds.

showing that there's $850 in the account is one thing, having 3 months of bank statements is another. He was prepared with 1 bank statement. We didn't know we needed the money sitting there for 3 months.
