I think, once they have implemented the financial proofs in the e-visa system, again, different embassies can start to ask for specifically higher amounts, especially for the multi-entry Tourist Visa. Remember, at Thai embassies in Europe, the financial proof 5 years ago used to be 5000.- Euro
this would be exactly my point, too. For the application to the Tourist Visa, you would have to upload a bank statement. However upon entry into Thailand, you can get asked for an equivalent of 20,000 THB in CASH. Only cash will be accepted, no bank statements and no credit cards. Thailand is making up very ridiculous rules
the witnesses obviously after what you said the Immigration told you, need to accompany you in person. Do you have all other requirements at hand in order to apply for the "change of visa type" from the exempt entry to a "90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa" ?
your only problem would be, that you cannot open the required bank account on a touristic entry. You need to find an agent who has a deal with Immigration and a Thai bank, to allow you to apply for the "change of visa type" from a visa-exempt entry to a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa, in the absence of a Thai bank account in your name. Some agents then will use the 2000.- THB fee receipt from Immigration to open a bank account in your name.
You got no "visa". When you enter visa-exempt, they don't give you a visa. They just stamp a "stay permit" into your passport. You cannot enter Thailand visa-exempt several times within each 365-days period. After two visa-exempt stays of 60+30 days, you will most probably get refused entry after you have maxxed out the past 6 months with visa-exempt stay permits and their 30-days extensions. You are not supposed to use tourist visa or visa-exempt entries for a longstay in Thailand . . . since the laws changed on July15th, 2024, Immigration is taking a closer look
for the application to the 90-days visa outside or inside Thailand, the money just needs to sit in the account. For the application to the "1-year extension of stay based on being married to a Thai wife", on the day you apply you need the bank statement that the money has been in the account since 2 months. There is no requirement to show any proof of origin
