Do I need to submit a printed TDAC for my visa extension application in Thailand?

Submitting a printed TDAC for an application to an extension?

Yesterday, I read a report that initially puzzled me.

You all know and are aware of the requirement to fill out and submit the TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card), which has been in effect since May 1, 2025. It can be completed starting 72 hours before your planned arrival in Thailand.

As soon as you receive the TDAC QR code via email, you should definitely print it out and take it with you. Why is that?

You won't be explicitly asked for it at the immigration counter anymore, because the immigration officer can see it on their computer screen after scanning your passport. And you can theoretically show it on your phone.

BUT:

According to a recent report, Immigration will require a copy of the TDAC signed by you in blue ink, when applying for the next one-year extension of stay. And most likely soon, the same when applying for the 30-day tourist extension.

To date (August 16, 2025), there has only been one report on this. However, I am expecting more of those to appear.

It's somewhat understandable, because previously, you had to present your TM6 departure card when applying for the one-year extension of stay, and the same applied when one applied for the 30-day touristic extension.

When the TM6 was abolished almost three years ago for air travel and later also for land travel, I had to react.

I had long since removed the fact that you no longer had to present the TM6 departure card from my consultation templates – and now it will probably be added back to the list of requirements of the various immigration offices as proof of a completed TDAC.

By informing people about this, I can at least prevent you from having to leave the immigration office empty-handed if they ask for a printout of your TDAC and you unfortunately don't have it with you on this day

Be prepared and always expect the unexpected

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) must be printed and signed for certain immigration applications, particularly when applying for one-year extensions of stay and possibly 30-day tourist extensions. Although it can be viewed digitally by officers, a physical copy may be required as a new policy. Previous requirements like the TM6 card have been abolished, but there are reports suggesting that evidence of the TDAC completion will again be necessary. It's advisable for expats to be prepared by having a printed copy on hand when visiting immigration offices.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

Well you have the TDAC QR code in the mail you receive.

TM6 ? I didn’t use it for my extension of stay renewal for the last 15 years ,

but keep everything, print if needed ,

the more the better obviously 😃
THAI ******************************
Right now, this requirement comes only from the BOI for LTR visas.

This is one of the main reasons our TDAC system processes group and family applications individually ( one PDF per person ).

So far, we haven’t seen TDAC being required for other visa types, though there were some early discussions about it.

I haven't got one, came over 2 years ago when you didn't need one, never had a problem with my exstenion of stay.

@Michael *******
If you arrived when the TM6 was let's call it suspended,you can't of course show a copy of it. But, if your last arrival came with the TM6 arrival card, you still need to show a copy of it (at my immigration office at least) when doing annual extensions. Get it?

What happened to immigration going digital 5555. That was big campaign in early 2020.

@Michael *******
You are correct that was the government's plan but the dinosaurs at ground level have a reputation of preferring stuff printed off. Somebody recently posted about doing a border bounce with DTV and he had to have two copies of everything.

@Ian *********
There was a law they were going to change which required for everything to be printed not sure if that was changed. But yes ground level as well we bought a flat on friday and all supposed to be digital and online now, even big poster in front of land office but we had already made copies of everything and yep of course they wanted copies

I haven't left Thailand for 6 years now, so I still have the old paper TM6 in my passport. Still had to copy it for this years extension.
Max *************
@Roger *******
I've had my last TM6 stapled in my passport since 2017, and I have a few copies in a folder for extensions. It's a requirement at immigration and imo no biggie. 😎
Lynnette *******
If it's required or asked for, just do it. I always print stuff and have in a folder.

@Lynnette ******
so you better got a printed copy in backhand when you visit your Immigration, to be prepared if they tell you that the Q-Code on your mobile phone is not sufficient

@Nongnuch *******
I don't rely on my phone. Ever.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
You do know you can keep that TDAC in your email-client? It doesn't matter if your phone crashes,it will still be available in your new phone or computer.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
so if you need it and phone crashes, you've got to go get a new phone to retrieve it, wasting time. Or simply take out the printed copy you have. I'll stick with my printed copy. Then go get a new phone.
Max *************
@Lynnette ******
But that printed copy came from an email,right? It means you can open that mail from any computer anywhere and print out a new TDAC when needed. You sound like a clueless not so tech savvy conspiracy theorist. You think bank apps and smart phones are dangerous and you're giving people advice here? Come on, it's not 2005 anymore.
Lynnette *******
@Max ************
I know how email works. You seem to spend a lot of time stressing about how other people deal with things. Constantly seeking to dismiss what they do. I know full well you can use any computer or get a new phone, we aren't talking about that. I print what's important perchance something is required and I'm asked for it then and there. Like in a queue, an appointment, whatever. I was asked for a print of my airline ticket at check in this May. Your plan would fail.
