But sometimes the visa wasn’t issued in time and you needed to leave anyway because of your air ticket. Happens several times and a trip over the border activates the stay based on the visa anyway. I’ve never heard about this restriction regarding application process when you apply outside Thailand. Could you provide an accurate link please. 🙏

This is quite common terminology. If you receive your tourist visa as a e-visa after you’ve entered Thailand on a visa exemption, you’ll need to leave and activate the stay the visa gives you anyway even though the visa is valid for 90 days after it’s issued. I’ll put a line here anyway.

The visa is valid and active five years from issue date, but you’ll need to activate and get the 180 days stay the visa gives you anyway. This can’t be done inside Thailand.

No, the only extension available is the one year extension of stay, unless you’re married Thai or have a Thai child and can apply for the standard 60 days extension visiting Thai family.

ok I understand, it’s quite straightforward if you can get one with a little PC knowledge to help you.😉

You should be able to re-enter immediately as you’re not doing a border bounce just activating a valid visa. Not all borders to Laos require two nights out anyway.

She gets a ticket out within 60 days and his return ticket back to UK later. No issues regarding entry to Thailand.

Flight out of within 60 days Thailand fulfil formal requirement for a 60 days visa exemption. No issues.

If you apply for the initial 90 days Non Immigrant visa online at your embassy/consulate before you leave you’re excused for the onward ticket requirement anyway.

No you can apply for an extension at your local immigration. This is in the nature of the METV even if some IO seems strict upon entry. There’s no risk regarding this and a METV is known to give up to nine months in Thailand.
