In whatever country you tend to be in, the majority ethnic group tends to see the food of its respective minority groups as "lesser" and thus not something they want to expose a "guest" to eat.
In reality, we tend to like minority group food (as long as it is good) because it tends to be different from the rest of the food we eat in that country.
I've been to what...more than a dozen countries in Asia? I definitely like the food that residents of respective countries want to treat me to, but they all tend to be more-or-less the same style. But if you want to see what all the respective minority groups have to offer too, you need to ALSO be exposed to places that a majority ethnic group resident would probably never take you to.
