Yangon Visa Run Report:

1) Just get the Myanmar e-visa. Don't go to the embassy. Way too expensive.

2) If you want to go cheap, I would definitely recommend booking Scott Hostel through Agoda. Good location, bargain price compared to prices on the ground.

3) There's like a LOT of decent food in Yangon now--not true 2 years ago--but you really need to be with someone who knows all the good places--probably an NGO worker.

4) Bring a USD $100. The Thai visa office only takes USD, and they have lots of change. Easiest way to break $100 here that I know of. Visa costs $40.

5) No decent, cheap food in the Yangon airport.

Attached is the visa fee table in the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok right now. Now it's neither cheaper nor more convenient to just do an e-visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This report provides insights for expats planning a visa run to Yangon, Myanmar. Key suggestions include obtaining a Myanmar e-visa instead of an embassy visa for cost efficiency, staying at Scott Hostel for budget accommodation, and recommendations for dining, urging travelers to go with knowledgeable locals. Additionally, travelers should bring USD for the Thai visa fee, which is $40, and note that decent food options are limited at Yangon airport.

Tan Sze Liang it's FREE for singaporeans to get into burma I don't know if it's free for you to get a tourist visa to thailand. :/
@El***
mentioned that it's free for you to get a tourist visa to thailand at the thai consulate in Malaysia but I dunno about burma as it's not listed on their website.

Good Luck (y) report back and let is know :)

I am Singapore passport. I think it's free for a tourist visa.

Remember they ONLY take US Dollars for the thai visa at the consulate in Yangon. CRISP, fresh bills not ratty ones. :O

You can pick up your passport the next afternoon from 2 pm – 5 pm.

The other upside for using the thai consulate in Yangon is the time points for flights from Bangkok are crazy good and you can fly in, get to the consulate, turn in your application, go chill at a guest house until the next afternoon, go get your passport and head right to the airport to come back to bangkok..

@Rob***
, you should have see the Savannakhet border crossing in the afternoon back when that consulate offered same day service. It was nothing but foreigners comin' back into thailand :O No one stayed overnite there (which is why I think they discontinued same day service) ;)

Is this the life of the modern tourist? Go to a new place, apply visa to extend your holiday time in Thailand and get as quickly back as possible.

Nice. Personaly for #3 I'd go with a Myanmar citizen from Yangon rather than an NGO worker

Exactly my point again

In whatever country you tend to be in, the majority ethnic group tends to see the food of its respective minority groups as "lesser" and thus not something they want to expose a "guest" to eat.

In reality, we tend to like minority group food (as long as it is good) because it tends to be different from the rest of the food we eat in that country.

I've been to what...more than a dozen countries in Asia? I definitely like the food that residents of respective countries want to treat me to, but they all tend to be more-or-less the same style. But if you want to see what all the respective minority groups have to offer too, you need to ALSO be exposed to places that a majority ethnic group resident would probably never take you to.

Exactly. If you like food "expats" would like.

idk. The places my friend took me to didn't seem like the kind of places that the average Myanmar citizen would know or think that expats would tend to like. Almost all were food from minority ethnic groups.
