Curious Tod if one can see on the account an indication that it is marked as such. I've had my funds in different one year fixed accounts for years now, I used to open new accounts at whatever the prevailing rate was, now I just let it rollover. At any rate, never knew of this and wondering if I can see on my bankbook a notation as such. I always thought my account couldn't be touched.
I have been in Thailand for about 18 years, with about 10 of those on retirement Non O extensions. I brought over my 800,000 way way back when, and have moved the money into new accounts again and again. I have never ever had an issue with immigration regarding this, all they seem to care about each time is the bank letter....and what I find amusing is that the last time I got the bank letter, I actually went and translated it, and all it says is that I am the owner of this account, nothing as to where the funds came from or when, it's as generic a letter as the embassy letters "verifying" residency or income used to be. That said, I ALWAYS bring the previous bank books (1 or 2) to show immigration that I opened a new account with better interest or that the previous CD had expired, and I also have gotten printouts from the bank going back xx years to show that I did indeed move the initial money from overseas. Have never had to use them, but am prepared.
Thanks. I probably will just pay the 100 baht to get the letter. I've never ever had problems with Immigration during any of my 15 years here, mostly because I think I come in there with every i dotted and t crossed. Seems like that is the trick (I use CW as my office).
, we both arrived on 30 day entries. She left after 30 days, I was eligible to change my 30 day to a 3 month Non O. After 45 days, I returned to immigration and received a one year extension. She was on a trailing spouse visa when we were here 5 years ago, so we've had to start the process from scratch. I'm assuming she will be given the initial 3 month Non O at the Thai Embassy in Manila. We will apply for the visa there on December 8, but not return to Thailand until the 31st, so I am presuming that her 3 month Non O will get a March 30, 2023 date stamped on it. Only reason I'm asking is to try and figure out when the extension application dates will be in case we want to travel (meaning I assume the one year extension will be applied for within 30 days of March 30). I believe you are 100% correct that when she does get the extension, it will be aligned to Dec 25, 2023, my date of expiry.
thanks, yes, I'm very clear on that. Hey, when I reenter and have already registered online for my tm30 when I arrived last month, do I have to register again and bring that proof when I go for my extension ( I own, don't rent)?
Thanks, I have been doing online appointments all the way, it's way faster. Yesterday I had a reentry permit appointment set for 11 and I didn't think I'd make it as I still hadn't gotten my passport back with the new visa stamp that needed copying. People were remarking that the reentry permit stamping was taking way longer than usual, several had been waiting an hour plus...I got my passport back just as my online time slot was starting, ran downstairs and made a copy, and once I showed an officer my online appointment, she basically did my permit and had it stamped within 10 minutes. Are they really being sticklers about the bankbook date or is it case by case? When I applied to change to a Non O, I both updated my passbook and got the bank letter one day before my appointment. I've had my money in a fixed CD for 15 years, and they didn't seem to make any fuss. Any different on the Non O extension, or just up to the officer you get?
thanks, that's exactly what I was after. Just to note, the lady that handled my paperwork did both tell me and show me a chart saying that the 90 days would be dated from the day of application, not the day of pickup, and that I could apply to extend 45 days from September 27....then again, they could always find a reason to reject or not give the stamp come next week
