Sure. I’m the same way. I’m just saying I never had a problem renting cars overseas or here or with anything else Thai. I don’t think anyone here takes a Thai DL very seriously. If it’s a serious paperwork issue they’ll always want your passport or other ID.

Just my experience.

Yes, I kept my old passport number on my license until it expired. No one ever cared. And it was updated when I renewed.

nope. Haven’t heard of any boats being placed under arrest but it’s no huge surprise. There is/ was a licensing procedure but under military rule this would no doubt have changed. All old licenses have been cancelled.

I know a lot of foreign couples here in Phuket who "own" their houses. There are ways to do it. Best to contact several law offices and real estate companies to get as many opinions as you can on this. Where there's a will there's a way and yes, if you're going to stay put it's best if you own it. Not only for appreciation but also so you can do what you want to it and not have to argue with a landlord every time you want to make a change.

yes. But the stated amount is checked at immigration. The rest are just accounting moves.

Yes, I used to run diving and kayaking trips up there. I'm afraid that people won't be visiting Myanmar for a while. It was always a hard sell politically but now it will be virtually impossible.
