Hey! Question - when applying to the DTV freelancer route in Vietnam, do we have to prove the 500,000 THB minimum financial requirement for the past 3 or 6 months? I don't see it on the Thai's official website

DTV Visa from Indian Embassy’s

What is your experience with Mumbai/Delhi consulate after applying for DTV Visa?

I’m planning to apply soon from the Mumbai consulate, and I’m seeing a few post’s about Mumbai consulate rejecting freelancer’s application. I work as a freelance motion designer, and I meet all the criteria. Is New-Delhi Consulate any better? Not sure if someone living in the Maharashtra jurisdiction can apply from the New Delhi consulate. If someone has experience or doing the same, let me know!

Hello,

Has anyone successfully applied from the Netherlands or Ireland as a freelancer recently ?

I have an EU passport and legal residence in both countries.

Hey guys! My dog got sick last week, so I decided to extend my stay by 30 days and plan to head to Vietnam instead of Indonesia when applying for the DTV visa as I have heard the approval process is faster. I am planning to leave on March 23 and would appreciate recommendations on whether Hanoi is a good option or if I should consider other cities or countries. I was originally planning to apply under the freelancer/remote worker category, but I am now considering the soft power option. Any insight on which path has a higher chance of approval would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all! I applied from Canberra Aus on Jan 5th, I received my first correspondence for supporting docs on Jan 29th. Three times they have asked me to supply a VEVO check/status but I am Aus citizen so in the end I supplied a pdf with 2 things (a letter to them stating I’m not eligible to show status in VEVO, a copy of my Aus passport). I had previously already supplied my Aus passport (in the application initially). Then they asked for another supporting document of proof (Jan 30th) I’m able to work in Thailand by my company. I’m a freelancer and supplied this letter with my initial application. Then I submitted a reissue with a bullet point stating ‘the consultant is able to work in Thailand should she wish to’. Today I’m asked for the same thing again so I reattached the same doc (this is a letter from the HR department of my clients which I showed my primary income from).

Anyone else with similar experience? Should I be submitting a different doc/letter to support this? I’m in a fully remote contract and all my contracts states fully remote outside of AUS. 🙏

Flight is leaving in 7 days ☹️

DTV APPROVED – VIENTIANE, LAOS

Applied: Jan 18, 2026

Fee paid: Jan 19, 2026

Pending approval: Jan 21, 2026

Approved: Jan 24, 2026

Freelancer. No agent used.

First of all, a big thank you to this group. I spent quite a bit of time reading previous approval posts here, saving examples, and learning from people who documented their process carefully. That guidance helped a lot.

Based on patterns I saw in the group, I focused heavily on clarity and structure. I submitted 3 separate PDFs, each with a signed cover letter, table of contents, and clearly labeled evidence. The goal was to make the officer’s review as straightforward as possible and avoid follow-up requests.

A few details that may be helpful to others:

* I applied in Vientiane, Laos.

* My intended travel date to Thailand was set to Jan 30. I do not know if this affected processing speed, but I chose a date close enough in case applications are prioritized by intended entry date, while still leaving sufficient time for processing, especially given some consular days off during my application period.

* No interview was required. At the time I applied, interviews were still considered mandatory in Vientiane. However, I had no interview, and I have seen a few recent approval posts here without interviews as well, so this may indicate a recent change in practice.

* All documents were in English except bank statements. For those, I attached both the original version and a Google-translated version, and highlighted the relevant details on the translated version (name, dates, balances, and deposits corresponding to invoices).

The 3 PDFs I submitted:

1. Financial Evidence - cover letter explaining the source of my funds:

* Personal bank statements (last 3 months, personal account, original + translated versions).

* USD to THB conversion table showing ending balances converted to THB.

* Proof of income: client invoices corresponding to deposits shown in the bank statements.

* Supplementary proof of funds: recent Interactive Brokers investment account statement.

2. Proof of Location - cover letter explaining that accommodation was short-term since I had not finalized my Laos itinerary yet, and declaring that I would remain in Laos until a final decision was issued:

* Laos visa and passport entry stamp. I included a photo of the passport fully opened, showing both facing pages with the entry stamp, as I had seen comments in this group that officers sometimes want to see the full passport spread rather than a single cropped page.

* Photo of me holding my passport in the arrivals hall at VTE airport.

* Airbnb booking and payment confirmation (Vientiane).

* Flight confirmation and boarding pass.

3. Freelancer Status - this was the main cover letter. It explained who I am, what services I provide, links to my professional profile, and why I want to live in Thailand. It also included a clear declaration that I will not provide services to Thai clients and will not receive any income from Thailand:

* Professional portfolio (CV + LinkedIn printout).

* Supporting documents from my main client: the service agreement, and a signed confirmation letter explicitly approving my ongoing engagement and clearly stating that I am allowed to work remotely, specifically including permission to work remotely from Thailand.

Overall, the process was smooth and I did not receive any follow-up requests.

Huge thanks again to everyone in this group who shared timelines, document structure, and lessons learned. Hopefully this helps someone else preparing their application.

I was asked by a company today. For DTV freelancer, they say on their website that they need 4 months of money back and forth. Anyone have any information?

A good agency is fine.

Hi everyone 🙂

I’m a freelancer with two long-term clients, planning to apply for the DTV visa in Laos (Vientiane), and would appreciate some advice:

1. I’ve had over 500K in my bank account for more than 3 months. The account mainly shows incoming payments and almost no expenses, since I only use it to receive funds and occasionally transfer to investments. I also had a recent one-time payment from a third client for work done outside Thailand. Could this raise any issues? Do I need to document that one-time job, or can it be ignored?

2. I’m a tax resident in Panama, where freelancers don’t need a registered company, and there is no specific freelancer registration paperwork I can present. I only have tax declarations, invoices, and contracts. Is this usually sufficient?

3. Do I need remote-work approval letters from all clients, or are there accepted alternatives?

4. For translations: do all documents need to be translated into Thai, and are machine translations acceptable?

Thanks a lot for your help 🙏
