Very happy to get DTV approved yesterday and thanks to all those who helped me when I had some uploading glitches, much appreciated. And of course I read others' updates on here regularly to help me prepare, hence I'm giving my update in the hope of helping others.

Here’s details of my application and what else I was asked to supply, and I hope the information can help anyone applying from HCMC under workation.

NZ passport

I have lived in HCMC for the past 10 years and applied in HCMC

Remote worker – Online teacher

Friday 1st August – Completed online application

Monday 4th August – requested 3 more documents

Tuesday 5th August – uploaded new information requested.

Thursday 7th August – Approved

I thought I had been very thorough and uploaded everything with cover letters/summaries, explanations etc. but still got asked for 3 extra documents:

1.Proof of current location – they asked for a photo of every page of my passport, including blank pages and with time and date stamp.

I was surprised because I have already uploaded by apartment contract (In Vietnamese and English) signed by landlady and with my address, my bank account with the same address, and my passport page with the last entry stamp into Vietnam.

2.Proof of payslips matching bank account – It simply said show proof of monthly payslips matching bank deposits. (They didn’t question the 500,000 THB, but my balance was significantly more.)

I thought this was odd too as I had already uploaded 6 months of bank statements showing salary, 6 months of payslips with company stamp and a little table on the cover page explaining it all.

The covering table listed the months, amount earned in GBP, amount deposited in NZD in bank account and a Thai conversion.

I couldn’t think of any way to make it simpler or more obvious so I just uploaded the same 6 payslips and the same bank statements again but put coloured highlights over the amounts and inserted a comment box saying – January payslip and January salary deposit.

3.Samples of work or portfolio – I had already sent my linkedIn link and a letter of recommendation from the organization I freelance to, stating what I do; tutor students, write course curriculum etc.

So, I decided to upload my CV, some lesson plans, a course I wrote, some IELTS speaking and writing marking templates I’d developed. I honestly thought this might be way off the mark, but didn't know what else could be relevant, and anyway it worked.

And of course I had already supplied all the company stuff; business registration, letter of recommendation, letter stating my work was all remote and no Thai clients and my work contract – all stamped with company stamp.

So, that was the screening process I experienced this week in HCMC. Now, you might get a different officer who checks different things, and they may get stricter or more lenient over time, but that was the state of play this week. I hope it’s helpful for someone thinking of applying in HCMC.

I got my non-O visa for 3 months (spouse visa).

how long before it expires should I go back to immigration for an extension?

Should I bring the same documents as the first time and bring my wife along with me?

Is it possible to do "Retirement" type O Extension, 90 day Report, and Residence Cert. in one CW Bangkok IO visit?

Never tried before and wondering if Extension, then 90 Day, then Res. Cert. is the best sequence order.

Not sure about CW Extension timeline. If I have to give up my passport and wait a few days or a week for the "under consideration" time and the new Extension to be stamped into my passport then this plan would not be possible.

Alternatively, could I do the 90 day and Residence Cert. in and hour or so . ..and then when I have those finished, submit the Extension application and passport for consideration. ....and wait up to a week for the Extension stamped passport to be ready for pickup?

Doing a group search I found what I hope is a complete list of all the required docs for each step I need for a new address (old Extension was with Jomtien IO) with new TM30 and new rental agreement :

Extension non-imm O (at new address)

-- Extension application TM 7

-- Passport pages

-- TM30 at new address

-- Proof 800k bank book pages

-- Signed stamped bank letter 800k

-- Signed stamped bank statement 800k

-- Lease

-- Picture front of the house with house #

-- Drawn or Google map of house location

-- House book/owner ID ?

-- Photo

90 day report (at new address)

-- TM47 90 day report application

-- Passport pages

-- Previous 90 day receipt (old address)

-- TM30 at new address

-- House book/owner ID ?

-- Photo

Residence certificate (new address; for Drv Lic )

-- Application from residence certificate

-- Passport pages inc. last extension (from today

-- Previous 90 day report (from today)

-- Copy of receipt of notification TM30

-- House book/owner ID ?

-- Photo

Do the lists above include all the required documents ?

Old Jomtien Extension of stay expires 2 August.

10 July would be 90 days from last entry at BKK airport from outside Thailand.

Information only:-

Samut Prakan immigration, Extension of 90 day Non O to one year based on marriage to a Thai national using banked funds.

Started the morning trip to ATM to update bank book, I had prepared the proof of funds earlier that week.

We arrived at Immigration had my Online TM-30 screenshot certified.

I was then advised to fill out new documentation (the font has changed from those we used previously and the notice of the charge being 1900thb had been removed)apart from that identical.

Despite the Immigrations office paperwork stating Marriage cert (Kor Ro 2) dated that year is acceptable, they actually require it dated that day. So we took trip to Amphur over the road to get another certified. There is no signage however we found you do not have to que for this service and can go straight to counter 10 to get it.

Back to Immigration office, submitted paperwork all was now in order.

Again it not detailed within the Immigration offices paperwork was that we required a Thai National to witness for us, they kindly gave us time to find one.

We were advised by the IO to leave at least 400K in the bank until the extension is approved next month. Also that we will get a phone call to arrange a home visit in a week or so where they will take identical photos to those we already provided.

A photo of both the wife and I was then taken there before my passport handed back.

Pleasantries were then exchanged, Job done!
