This is the conclusion of US passport renewal by mail post rant I made about 5 weeks ago:
8/17 mailed passport and all forms via EMS to US embassy in BKK.
8/21 arrived at US embassy gate.
Website [members only]/ indicates “Current Processing Times (applied on or after March 24, 2023) Routine 10 to 13 weeks”. Signed up for E-mail notification
9/8 “no status avail”
9/14 Application Status: Not Available
9/16 Application Status: Mailed
9/18 Application Status: “The U.S. Department of State has mailed your passport book on 09/12/2023. We sent your passport book to you using Prepaid Delivery. Your application locator number is xxxxxx…” (this does not make much sense)
9/20 Notification E-mail received, “[members only]/, EQxxxxxxxxTH”, but upon tracking, "Data not found" is returned (post office strikes again).
9/21 Postman delivers EMS package containing new and old passports. Whole process took 5 weeks.
Immediately proceeded to local IO to transfer old visa extension to new passport.
Will need both passports, signed photocopies of bio page of old passport plus all pages containing stamps, signed photocopy of new passport bio page, and filled and signed application form requesting transfer to new passport. No pics or fee required. Takes 10-15 min. While no longer valid, IO suggests to bring old cancelled passport to next extension “just in case”.
I’d suggest updating local bank accounts with new passport. Not sure what to do about the driver’s license, but will check as well.
Still can’t get over why the US embassy sends American citizens on a wild goose chase to a foreign website, not in English, to buy 100 Baht ($3 USD equiv.) return postage. One-way public bus fare in San Francisco is $3… Anyway, end of rant. Will have a new story in 2033.
Hello folks. I arrived in Thailand via the Phuket Sandbox. 45!day visa exempt. Stayed there for 6 weeks. While I was there I went to the Immigration office to get a visa extension. The falang officer there told me I had two options: 30 days, or 60 days. But for the 60 days ‘I would have to lie on the form about being unable to return to my home country’ (Switzerland). His words exactly. I’ve been told this is not correct.
I’ve now moved to Bangkok. The 30 day extension expires early next month.
What is the correct way to get a further 60 day extension from Bangkok immigration?
Can you get a 60 day extension on the 1 year Extension of Stay based on marriage? Curious as I need to move finances to fund the 400k for 60 days. Thank you.
Hello everyone, Thank you for accepting my question, and I appreciate your help. This is a great group.
I'm currently on a TR visa, on my first 60 days. The visa expires on Jun 1st, and I can still extend it for another 30 days (I haven't yet). I rent an apartment in BKK.
I know that COVID extensions are until May 28th (or 25th?) at the moment. My passport is Israeli.
My question is: Assuming I want to stay longer than Jun 31st. What is the best course of action for me?
* Should I apply for a regular extension and hope I can get COVID extension later in June?
* Should I try to apply for a COVID extension first and get the 60 days?
Hi all, is it possible to change my work visa to a marriage visa ? (my wife is a thai). My employment contract will end soon, but i wish to stay in Thailand stil 2021 Feb - Mar.
So, to sum up, anyone with a visa(even the 30 days on arrival) expiring from 26 March onwards doesn't need to go to immigration office and will be allowed to stay in Thailand until 30 April or later according to the evolution of the sanitary crisis.
Therefore, overstay from 26 March onwards won't be claimed. Is that right?
That's nice, but I wonder what will happen when they will open the boarders again and thousands of people will try to get a visa run🤨
