Currently in Thailand on a single entry non-im B visa, expiring 27th Feb.

Is it possible to extend this for 30 or 45 days, or switch it to a tourist visa on expiration?

Thanks in advance for any help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is currently on a single entry non-immigrant B visa, expiring on 27th February, and is inquiring if it's possible to extend the visa for an additional 30 or 45 days or switch to a tourist visa upon expiration. Commenters suggest various options, including applying for a COVID-19 extension until January 29th, which could add 60 days, and considerations for switching to a retirement extension. The requirement for an embassy letter for extensions was discussed, indicating varying practices among immigration offices in Thailand.

If you can obtain the letter from the embassy.

up until the 29th January a embassy letter is not needed. Who know what will be after that date.

Depending on which immigration office.

I’ve not seen any reports of any office requiring an embassy letter for months now. Still with 70+ offices around the country there may well be some that haven’t read the police order.....

You say that like you would find that hard to believe. Either you haven't been here long enough, or too long...

Not hard to believe, but for a couple of months now no one has posted saying “Hey my immigration office in Nakhon Nowhere is still requiring embassy letters.” For the second part of your comment, 33 years. Is that long enough or too long?

Use an agent

Up until Jan 29th (date may change) you can apply for a “unable to travel due to Covid” extension, which would give you 60 days extra.

Thanks - is that online, or at an immigration office?

Immigration office. Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms)

4. 2x passport pictures

5. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

You'd get stamped 60 days, generally from the date you apply

Depending on your age, and amount of money in a Thai bank account, you might be able to switch to a retirement extension.

thanks - although old enough, I have only had a Thai bank account for a few weeks, so probably won’t be able to go down that route.
