A friend of mine from Ghana was denied entry into the Kingdom last night, reasons still unclear. However, according to the document issued, which I believe was a deportation one written by the immigration officer, the reason cited was that of not having an address in Thailand. Meanwhile, his brother who legally resides here and has a valid work permit, provided all the necessary documentation the immigration might need to establish the truth about his purpose of entering the Kingdom, including his valid house registration (Yellow Tabien Baan). I understand he was coming to see his brother, but did he really need a hotel booking to match the TR visa he was traveling on? I am asking this because that was the information we got from the tourist police at the airport, that he needed a hotel booking even if he was not going to stay there.

Moreover, he had enough funds to cover his one-week stay and a genuine return ticket too. What could probably be the cause of his deportation? When soon can he return to Thailand? How likely is he to escape a short ban? Any advice will help, please.

Thanks in advance 🙏 .

Perhaps time to post this here again.

Overstaying your “admitted until” date in your passport is breaking the law.

Many times on here people ask is it ok to overstay - 1, 2, 5 days etc. The fine at the immigration exit desk is 500 baht per day of overstay. Some airport immigration officers will waive the fine if it is only 1 day, but you’ll still get a small stamp in your passport in Thai saying “overstay fine waived as under 24 hours”. 100% you’ll be fined at a land border

HOWEVER if you are stopped inside the country for any reason - like at a police check point - even on your way to an airport or border crossing then be prepared for a whole lot of trouble.

The police may arrest you as you have broken the law. If they do you’ll be fined in court and then sent to the nearest Immigration Detention Centre, where you will be kept until you buy a one way ticket back to your home country. If you don’t have the funds for that you will be kept there until you find some means of raising those funds. Once you have your ticket, you will be deported and blacklisted from entering the country for up to 5 years.

Sounds dramatic but it sometimes happens. 500 baht a day sounds cheaper than an extension for 1900 baht at a local immigration office but in the overall scheme of things it is never wise to overstay.

For those who want to argue that “I’ve never had an issue on overstay - so you’ll be fine” Is akin to saying “I got away with breaking the law - so you will too”.

There have also been reports of some having issues with getting visas or entries to other countries because of their overstay stamp in Thailand. Russia and Singapore spring to mind. It may not affect you coming back to Thailand but it could potentially be an issue going somewhere else.

Hello, I have a friend who has been in US since he was a baby and is now facing deportation to Thailand. He knows nothing about Thailand and has no family or resources there. Are there any programs available there that help with integration into society there and helps with housing and finding employment until he can make it on his own? Thank you so much.

I went to immigration for visa extension a week or so ago and got the stamp saying I was under consideration and that I should return on oct 7th. Am I safe in assuming that that clears me from deportation until oct 7th?

Hello! My classic story:

Lived in Thailand for 5 years, built a house, a small business cafe, a guest house, a wife from Thailand. All this time I was in the country on a tourist visa without any violations ever. But one fine day the immigration service came to us .... as a result, deportation home. This happened in September, 2016, 3 years have already passed. I was voiced by one of the officers that deportation for 5 years due to illegal work, there is a stamp in my passport on my case. The officer at the airport was not able to voice the deadline for my deportation; I did not receive any deportation documents. Can anyone comment on my stamp, is there a deadline? Waiting for another 2 years is already unbearable, and scary, suddenly there are 100 years ... :(

Not necessarily visa related but would like some info if possible . I have a friend in bkk who is now on overstay day 3. He has already extended by 30 days so obviously his next step is pay his fine and leave the country . Right here’s where I need some info . He doesn’t have a return ticket out of the country at this moment in time . If he gets stopped and passport checked, will they a, immediately deport him back to UK or b, keep him in a detention cell until the funds for a flight to Uk become available . TIA and feel free to remove if not appropriate

DEPORTED FOR WORKING ON WRONG EXTENSION AND NO WORK PERMIT

Just for information - "D___ G___ is being transferred to Bangkok this afternoon.

Apparently it stemmed from a complaint that he was working without permit.

Talk is that the complainant appears to have 'influence.' The apprehension was coordinated by a number of departments according ". Now this happened in Sakon Nakhon in Isaan , not a big town by any stretch. Just shows that the clampdown is all over the country. He will now be deported back to Germany, obviously his wife etc is all here !
