Hi everyone,

my idea is to apply for a 60 day tourist visa and then extend it by 30 days on site in Hua Hin. I plan to buy a flight ticket for 82 days, so my question is, will my 60 day tourist visa application be approved when the plane ticket shows that I intend to stay 82 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the approval of a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand when the applicant's flight ticket shows an intention to stay 82 days. Participants share experiences indicating mixed responses: while some embassies might approve the visa based on extended flight tickets, others might lead to challenges at the embassy or airline check-in. It is advised to check both embassy policies and airline requirements since some airlines may require proof of onward travel within the length of the visa stay.

Sydney Thai Consulate did not ask for my flight tickets. My arrival and departure is 4 months apart with nothing inbetween. Where it asks for arrival date I put my flight number and date, then I added 60 days and on the departure I put "bus" and date. It was approved no problem. When I arrived at Suvarnabhumi I was stamped in for 60 days and no questions were asked.

I have recently bought a return ticket for 89 days, normally I buy a ticket for 59 days, and then get an 30 day extension.

But the cost of changing my return date last time, cost me over £300 pound taking my total ticket price £1100.

My 89 day return this time is £909, only £100 pound dearer than last year for 59 days.

I hate it when I sound like my mother, but your one day margins are tight and don’t allow for cancelled flights, etc.

Did mine back in April with my return later than the 60 days as I was going to extend had no problem but probably down to each embassy

My visa was approved with 90 day return flight. ( from UK) And no problem boarding my outbound flight either. They did ask and checked my return flight.

Nope and you probably wont be able to board your flight without onward travel within 60 days

same here. Never an issue with airlines

they never even asked for my return ticket. I was 43 days on my 30 day visa exemption and then just bought a 30 day extension for 1900 baht. I just left last week. No issues at all

Every embassy will have their own policy on this. You can apply and they will email you if they have any issues with your application.

At that point you can either try to explain you plan on getting an extension or you can rent a plane ticket out of Thailand from one of the many agencies who offer this service by doing a Google search for "onward travel ticket."

Please note that your airline may also have a policy on requiring proof out of Thailand within the number of days you'll be stamped in for when you arrive. Although most often this only comes into play when you fly without a visa, you may want to check with your airline to see if they want to see a ticket out of Thailand within 60 days as part of their checkin process.
