hello! i’m having some last-minute issues getting a visa in order to enter thailand.

i am planning to travel to thailand for 80 days but i see that a tourist visa only lasts for 60. ive been told that once i’m in the country i can extend this visa for 30 more days, but don’t i need proof of a returning flight in order to get the visa in the first place?

if i book a flight/ train out to a neighboring country 60 days out and then cancel that flight and extend my visa, will this work?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of entering Thailand on a tourist visa while planning an 80-day stay. The user notes that a standard tourist visa lasts for 60 days but can be extended by 30 days once in Thailand. Comments provide various insights: many travelers have successfully applied for the 60-day tourist visa without needing a booked return flight and have managed extensions easily. It's advised to book a flight out of Thailand that can be canceled later to satisfy potential outbound ticket requirements. Additionally, there are discussions regarding acceptable travel insurance for visa applications.

When I came here on a tourist visa, doing exactly what you are planning (except it's was 89 days), I bought a flexible ticket out within 60 days and as soon as I got past immigration in Suvarnabhumi I just cancelled my flight and went to immigration on day 55 to extend my visa 30 more days, getting a new ticket lut of the country before I applied.

So. Do that.

Buy 2 separate tickets, return ticket fully refundable.

When applying for the thailand pass/ visa i see that you need very specific insurance and it recommends AXA. Has anyone gotten away with using something like World Nomads or is that not accepted?

Don't cancel your ticket, just book another departure flight then cancel later

If you do not have nationality or right of residence for the country you are visiting you will need to have an outbound ticket. This will be checked by the boarding agent when you are checking in for your flight. Also on arrival immigration will also check. Failure to show an outbound ticket probably will result in you being sent back to the country you came from. This does not just apply to Thailand

No return flight was asked for when I applied for 60 day visa and neither the airline or Thai immigration asked. I had bought a return flight on day 60 though just in case😊

Your plan will work and is very sensible. Many people don't plan for this and then have complications during their application or when traveling.

You will need a return flight to Thailand they. Could stop you boarding at your departure airport . Once in Thailand its a simple process to exstend your visa .

You can apply for TR60 visa, put the dates and flight numbers in the application with out booking them yet can just use flights that match 60 day visa. When in Thailand go to Immigration and extend for another 30 days for 1900 baht. They never asked me for proof of flights booked when i applied for my TR60 visa. Visa does not start until you actually arrive in Thailand so if you put a date and flight on your application then fly a week later it doesnt matter.
