Will the Thai embassy in Canada have concerns about my return flight being 87 days after my entry while applying for a 60-day visa?

I am from Canada and have booked a flight to Thailand in November. I have also booked the return flight for 87 days later. My plan is to apply for a 60 day tourist visa in Canada before leaving and then get the 30 day extension in Thailand once there. My question is... will the Thai embassy in Canada be concerned that my return flight is 87 days after my entry and I am only applying for a 60 day visa or will they understand that I will likely be applying for the extension and have no concerns. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian traveler plans to fly to Thailand with a 60-day tourist visa and a return flight 87 days later, and wonders if the Thai embassy will be concerned about the discrepancy. Community comments suggest it's highly unlikely that the Thai embassy will raise issues regarding returning after 87 days, especially since the traveler intends to apply for an extension in Thailand. Most comments emphasize that having a valid ticket and a tourist visa minimizes complications with airlines and immigration.

This is what you will need to extend your SETV at any immigration office

I've been coming to Thailand on a SETV for the last 4 year's and extended each visa for 30 days.

I come for 89 days

And I've never had to show my flight ticket at the Thai embassy in london

But I've always had it with me.

Your have no problems.

Personally, I think it's highly unlikely that your own embassy will have an issue with your return flight being 87 days. You may have a issue with the Airline company. But, again unlikely as you have a visa, as opposed to getting a visa exempt on arrival; only once have I been asked to show a onwards flight by a airline. First I was asked if I had a visa, which i didnt, and then i was asked for a onwards flight. The flight I had was approx 90 days and they were fine with this. I was told that its the airlines responsibility to return you to your own country if you're refused entry - not sure how true this is. Only some of the airlines have a policy to ask for onwards flights. I was flying with Emirates. Regardless, I would suggest, as you've already bought the ticket for 87 days to try with that, if either the airline or the embassy ask for something within the 60 day period, then buy the cheapest coach ticket or plane journey out of Thailand. You can buy a coach ticket from Bangkok to Cambodia for approx 30 Canadian dollars - others may know of cheaper options - and just discard as soon as you're finished with either process. Good luck!

Sorry about that :/

I was confused at first (but I'm easily confused :) )

I think you're right and they shouldn't have a problem at the consulate with their onward travel ticket (y)

Tod Daniels Doug Etherington my apologies for any confusion. I had wrote it as such; the Thai consulate within your ‘own’ country. Or, at least meant it that way. Sorry, if I caused any confusion. Doug, follow whatever Tod has to say. He’s definitely the man to steer you in the right direction.

it's not his own embassy it's a THAI consulate in his country. ;) Some consulates want proof of onward travel within the amount of time you get on the visa, and some know that you can get a 30 day extension so are more lenient and will get you show proof of onward travel 90 days out.

Is it the reading? "return flight is 87 days after my entry." Why would the Airline or Thai Immigration making any problem of being without flight out of Thailand? 35 million tourist arrive yearly in Thailand the chance that you got questioned about proof of funds, accommodation and onward travel by Thai Immigration are very small. Unless you live in Thailand and using Tourist Visa and Visa Exempt entries for a longer period of time. Next to this the airline only ask people who show up with a ONE way ticket to Thailand and without Visa. He has both.

at first she said she couldnt check me in because i was staying 120 days and the visa was for 90 days. i explained a multi allows me another 90 so she overrode her computer to allow me to check in. but she phojned her supervisor first
Robert *******
So you were not denied on the plane. Or do you mean that airline can also ask people with return tickets and with or without visa.
Tony ********
not true. cathay questioned me about it last year and i explained i had a non-o multi. she said she had to override her computer to check me in

you have a flight booked out of thailand . So you are OK .. The embassy will grant ur TV for sure. But only issues are with airline or thai imiagration without showing flight out of thailand that is all :)
Patricia **********
The airline might not let you board your flight...

@Patricia *********
, the only time I have heard of an airline NOT allowing people to board their flight is when they are flying in on a visa exempt entry (without having a valid visa in their passport) and they have no proof of onward travel.

I cannot recall a single instance when a person with a valid visa in their passport was denied boarding because their onward travel was 30 days past the time they'd stamp into the country for

The canadian embassy wont even question or worry a bit. dont worry. Its only the immigration when entering into thailand. :)
Ashley ***************
And they sometimes ask for a return flight shown that u actually plan to leave at somepoint :)

Almost every Thai Embassy and Consulate have on their website that you can extend your stay. So I would not worry about it.
