TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses inquiries about the newly approved 10-year visa program in Thailand. Community members express hope for the program but also share concerns regarding potential restrictive requirements. Key points include the need for proof of income ($80,000 a year), a million dollars in assets for digital nomads, and specific employer requirements. The BOI Smart Visa Unit outlines necessary qualifications, which may pose challenges for many applicants.
Requirements for digital nomad from the article above: if you’re a digital nomad, you’ll need to show proof of $80,000 in income (plus $1 million in assets) over the last two years.
That would be new to me. Not sure how credible this article is. Also, I doubt many Digital Nomands would have $1 million is assets.
When I contacted the BOI Smart Visa Unit about the requirements in early February, the following were the communicated requirements. The last requirement was the one that would equally exclude most of remote workers / digital nomands:
Qualifications and criteria:
- Personal income of no less than $80,000/year in the past two years before applying for the visa. In case of annual personal income below $80,000 but no less than $40,000 in the past two years, applicants must have a master's degree (or above), own intellectual property, or receive Series A funding
- Health insurance policy of no less than $50,000 coverage through the entire period of stay in Thailand or social security healthcare, which insures hospitalization treatment in Thailand.
- At least five years of working experience in the relevant field to the current employment.
- Current employer must have one of the following characteristics;
a) a public company listed on the stock exchange in any country
b) a private company that has been in operation for at least three years and has total combined revenue of more than $150 million in the last three years
Thanks for sharing! Let’s hope this article got it wrong and all we need is the info from BOI Smart Visa Unit. 🤞🏻😊 Yeah you are right, the last requirement will probably be tricky to meet as a criteria…

I am in! This could be what is long overdue. Let's hope they don't mess it up with some impossible details on the last mile.
Did you have to apply in Bangkok or we can submit documents online? My husband and I are in Phuket and wondering if we can submit everything remotely or we’ll need to go to Bangkok?
