Do digital nomads need to provide proof of long-term residence in Thailand for their visa application?

Reading between the lines of posts and comments in this group and the implication is that proof of a long term residence in Thailand is unnecessary. Yet the visa form asks for an address and guarantor, and the the DTV specifications do mention “Proof of prolonged residence in Thailand for at least 6 months, such as a condominium rental agreement, lease agreement etc.” I’m sure this is an oversight for digital nomads whom, by definition, are comparatively constantly on the move, but I’m sure I’m not alone in worrying about this clause. Please can anyone provide information for how to handle this issue (e.g., do you have to provide proof of a 6-month booking?). Thanks and good luck all.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses concerns about the requirement for proof of long-term residence in Thailand when applying for a visa, specifically for digital nomads who typically do not stay in one location for extended periods. While the visa application mentions needing evidence such as rental agreements, responders reassure that the authorities understand the nature of digital nomads' lifestyles and there are ways around the residence requirement.

Please do not worry. They know and allow you to move around. You do not have to stay in Thailand any longer than you want and can move around. I do a full walkthrough here.

you say you pay 10,000 bht every 180 days in your video which is NOT correct. You may want to amend that. 😀👍

it's been confirmed by Thai Immigration in Phuket that there's an extension fee of 10,000 Thai baht for 180 day extension of stay with the DTV visa.

@Evan *******
This is from the officials. So it is true, at least according to them and the info I've found. Do you have proof otherwise? That would be great news if they are wrong

correct ✅

don’t know why you say it’s official. It’s been widely confirmed. Time for you to research

@Evan *******
it's not been confirmed AT ALL and
@Zachus *******
is no more wrong than you are saying it's 1900baht

NO ONE knows how much it will really be because not a single person on a DTV (which is just over 7 weeks old) has gotten a 180 day extension yet.

We really won't know for about 4 more months

This is the thai version where it says extend in country ONE time for not more than 180 days for 10K fee.

Now whether that actually will be the case or if it will be the 1900baht like all extensions are in thailand no matter the time who knows

hang on. What about those that have already left and returned on the DTV? They didn’t pay 10,000 bht at the airport! It’s multi entry and the official in the video also says come and go as you like. The extension is another matter however if willing to leave and return it’s irrelevant.
Zachus ********
@Evan *******
It's not 10K bht per entry, it's 10K bht per 180 days

@Evan *******
I think you're confused, a bit

the VISA is multiple entry for 5 years, meaning you can exit/re-enter all you want and you'll get 180 day entry stamp (that is part of the VISA). People have already got the DTV, entered got 180 days, left, came back and got a new 180 day stamp. <- That is how the VISA works 🙂

IF you want to get the EXTENSION OF STAY in country after you burn a 180 day entry stamp up that process has nothing to do with the terms of the visa and everything to do with the terms of extensions of stays at the immigration offices 🙂

and as I said seeing as not a single person has been IN thailand the 180 days yet on a DTV stamp no one knows exactly how the immigration office will do the extensions, what proof of funds, proof of documentation, or what price will be charged
Evan ********
@Tod ********
yes please carefully read next time. I said leave and return NOT get an extension. Sheesh!

@Evan *******
this is a weeks old thread, how about we just agree to disagree and leave it at that

you says in your video you can extend to 180 days more.

Don't forget that if you do that, they ask for new bank statement and income documents, for what I heard
Zachus ********
@Sean ********
Yes, they can. And you can only extend once. I would just leave and come back.
