TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about performing a border run to Cambodia for a 180-day extension on their Thai visa. Responses indicate that exiting Thailand re-enters one automatically for another 180 days under a DTV visa without needing an extension. However, some advise against relying on Cambodian crossings due to recent restrictions and suggest alternative borders like Malaysia or Laos. It's noted that extensions must be done in-country at immigration offices, costing approximately 1900 THB, and a 90-day report is also mandatory for all visa holders.

They are cracking down HARD on too many border runs, agent or not. STOP trying to cheat the system and just do it the right and legal way or is that just too hard?

Too many BR and they will start DENYING you re-entry until you get an ACTUAL Visa.

looks like he has a DTV 🤷

Be aware that Cambodian borders are currently operating on a reduced time schedule. They are only open from 8am to 4pm on the Thai side and 9am to 4pm on the Cambodian side

I thought it was a 5 year visa . Why are you paying for extension. You leave after 180 days and come back in for another 180 days and keep doing that for 5 yrs ? Am I wrong here
Simon *******
@Tony ********
you get 180 days per year plus an extension of 180 for 1900bht if required you then need to leave Thailand to get you next 180 day in the next year.
Graham ******
@Simon ******
wrong, there is no 180 day per year limit, it is 180 days stamp for every entry
Roxana ******
@Tony ********
this is how it works. And you also have to do a 90 day report at the Immigration office.
Tony *********
@Roxana *****
yes you can't get away from the 90 day report with any visa ... hahaha
Steve *******
Leaving and entering the country is not an extension.

Extensions are done in country, at immigration offices.

You get a 180 stamp every time you enter Thailand with a DTV. Just fly to Kuala Lumpur or another nearby city and spend the weekend there, instead of sitting in a van all day to go to a border and back.
Roxana ******
Extension at thai immigration office is 1900 Thb, not 10.000 Thb. Where are you getting your information from? 🤣

@Roxana *****
that's obviously a screenshot.

I would have used Malaysian or Laotian landborders right now because of the current situation, or just gone through an airport.

I wouldn't rely on Cambodian border crossings at the moment

If you ask anyone in here, their answer will be:

the only way to do it is with an agency that does border runs

Had a customer come across the border yesterday. They said it was quick for non Thais, but the queue for Thais was maybe 1000 long

@Stephen *******
you can’t help everyone with a border bounce sheet that’s 20 logs long with no visas purchased

If you did then it would bankrupt your business model for 1 person

Even though there is no limitations on border arrivals via air land or sea

@Jeremy *******
"Even though there is no limitations on border arrivals via air land or sea" . . . . I disagree. There is a limitation, however it is inofficial. . . . . . Although there is no official rule on how long you can stay and how many times you can enter visa-exempt within a 365-days period, the decision to allow entry is up to the border official. If he/she thinks that you are misusing the visa-exempt entry for a longstay in Thailand, he/she can deny entry

after the first sentence

You turned into a hypocrite

I stopped reading your fear mongering diatribe after the first sentence
Stephen ********
@Jeremy *******
I understand, that's why I'm saying that if visa exempt, with history, then definitely use an agent. But if that person has a visa, a DTV as in this thread, then there is no need for an agent
Jeremy ********
@Stephen *******
you don’t understand business dealing very well

If you “help out” that one person you become a mark that can be easily finessed

That will bankrupt your business model
Stephen ********
@Jeremy *******
the guy is asking advice reference his DYV. You commented that the only way he could leave and re-enter would be to use an agent. I'm simply disagreeing in part. That's all 🤷‍♂️
Jeremy ********
@Stephen *******
no what I said was this

If you Ask anyone in here they’re answer will be:

The only way to do it is with an agency that does border runs

Now I understand that English reading comprehension is not your strong suit or you would have understood my comment

wow 🤣🤣

@Jeremy *******
yes if visa exempt, no if have visa
Jan ******************
@Jeremy *******
Border run company is recommended instead of trying to do several border runs on your own to get visa exemptions. With a valid visa it’s no issues.
Jeremy ********
@Jan *****************
yes yes yes

Thailand is the only country where an agent has to hold your hand for everything and you can’t do anything on your own
Jan ******************
@Jeremy *******
I disagree, but you sometimes just need someone to grease the wheels a bit, and for several border bounces that’s just a fact.
Jeremy ********
@Jan *****************
just last week I went to an agent to inquire about a D/L they quoted me ฿10k

I did it on my own for ฿660

Thailand where everyone needs an agent to do everything for them at all times 🤣🤣

@Jeremy *******
I generally agree, there’s always someone willing to "help you" for 25-35K baht with something at an actual cost of 1900 baht. I would never use agent myself either.

But, a border bounce cost between 3-4K baht including everything and it guarantees you an additional visa exemption. I think that’s a reasonable price for something you in fact sometimes can’t do on your own.

@Jeremy *******
how do you find a good one of these, pal?

Bad advice! The Myanmar borders are closed for foreigners (except Ranong in the south), you can't do the border run there. You need to use one of the nearest borders to Laos. Buy a Lao visa on arrival. They will ask you to stay 2 nights in Laos, which you can avoid by doing the trip with a "Visarun Company" starting out of Chiang Mai. Google it, there are many of these companies

I am going for my 30 day extension next week but after that I want to find an agency for a border run.

thank you for the help, mate. I appreciate it.

the Visarun Company will also check your passport on it's recent stamp history. If you got exceedingly many visa-exempt entry stamps, they might be able to tell you how good or bad your chances are. A Visarun Company will not let you board any of their vans if they think you will get denied entry into Thailand. On a DTV one got a valid 5-year visa, it will guarantee a smooth re-entry

@Greg **********
this is my first time in Thailand. I am going for the 30 day extension this week and then want to find an agency after that. It gives me more time to get everything in order to go for a visa after that.
Erica ********
When the DTV holder exits Thailand, then travels to Thailand again, he/ she automatically gets another 180 days. No need to do any extension.
Simon *******
@Erica *******
you get 180 per year not every time you enter

@Simon ******

That's great but that wasn't the way the way it was supposed to work ,but if it does that's great

@Simon ******
that was exactly how it was designed to work as a multi entry visa
