TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the process of extending a stay in Thailand through border runs to Cambodia. Users share mixed experiences and advice, suggesting that a departure and re-entry (for DTV visa holders) grants another 180 days without needing an extension from immigration. There are cautions against relying too heavily on Cambodia for border runs due to current restrictions and reduced operational hours. It is also highlighted that too many border runs might lead to re-entry denial. Extension fees at immigration offices and the necessity of a 90-day report are mentioned as part of maintaining legal status.
They are cracking down HARD on too many border runs, agent or not. STOP trying to cheat the system and just do it the right and legal way or is that just too hard?
Too many BR and they will start DENYING you re-entry until you get an ACTUAL Visa.
Be aware that Cambodian borders are currently operating on a reduced time schedule. They are only open from 8am to 4pm on the Thai side and 9am to 4pm on the Cambodian side

I thought it was a 5 year visa . Why are you paying for extension. You leave after 180 days and come back in for another 180 days and keep doing that for 5 yrs ? Am I wrong here
yes you can't get away from the 90 day report with any visa ... hahaha

Leaving and entering the country is not an extension.
Extensions are done in country, at immigration offices.
You get a 180 stamp every time you enter Thailand with a DTV. Just fly to Kuala Lumpur or another nearby city and spend the weekend there, instead of sitting in a van all day to go to a border and back.

Extension at thai immigration office is 1900 Thb, not 10.000 Thb. Where are you getting your information from? 🤣
"Even though there is no limitations on border arrivals via air land or sea" . . . . I disagree. There is a limitation, however it is inofficial. . . . . . Although there is no official rule on how long you can stay and how many times you can enter visa-exempt within a 365-days period, the decision to allow entry is up to the border official. If he/she thinks that you are misusing the visa-exempt entry for a longstay in Thailand, he/she can deny entry
I understand, that's why I'm saying that if visa exempt, with history, then definitely use an agent. But if that person has a visa, a DTV as in this thread, then there is no need for an agent
the guy is asking advice reference his DYV. You commented that the only way he could leave and re-enter would be to use an agent. I'm simply disagreeing in part. That's all 🤷♂️
I generally agree, there’s always someone willing to "help you" for 25-35K baht with something at an actual cost of 1900 baht. I would never use agent myself either.
But, a border bounce cost between 3-4K baht including everything and it guarantees you an additional visa exemption. I think that’s a reasonable price for something you in fact sometimes can’t do on your own.
Bad advice! The Myanmar borders are closed for foreigners (except Ranong in the south), you can't do the border run there. You need to use one of the nearest borders to Laos. Buy a Lao visa on arrival. They will ask you to stay 2 nights in Laos, which you can avoid by doing the trip with a "Visarun Company" starting out of Chiang Mai. Google it, there are many of these companies

the Visarun Company will also check your passport on it's recent stamp history. If you got exceedingly many visa-exempt entry stamps, they might be able to tell you how good or bad your chances are. A Visarun Company will not let you board any of their vans if they think you will get denied entry into Thailand. On a DTV one got a valid 5-year visa, it will guarantee a smooth re-entry
this is my first time in Thailand. I am going for the 30 day extension this week and then want to find an agency after that. It gives me more time to get everything in order to go for a visa after that.

When the DTV holder exits Thailand, then travels to Thailand again, he/ she automatically gets another 180 days. No need to do any extension.
