Yes, I understand it's not a visa. I mistyped. And believe me, we aren't complaining about it. I guess I was just saying it'll be interesting what 'the plan' is come the next couple months.

@Tod ********
, yes, we knew that, and that's our plan.

Hilarious though. They say they want people on real visas and not just on amnesty, and then you try, and they are not issuing them.

I just received my 'personalised' letter from USA embassy for 2nd extension on 30-day tourist visa, which translates to them putting my name, DOB, and passport number on the bottom of the letter. I still have some time left on my 1st extension, so no idea if this letter works, but just letting USA citizens know that 'personalised' letters are being offered.

Update for USA passport holders - I received a generic letter from the embassy, which I responded saying Thai immigration wants personalized letters - I haven't received an actual letter yet, but I received this e-mail from the embassy today: Thai Immigration requires foreign travelers to request an extension letter from their respective embassies. If you are unable to return to the U.S. and require a visa extension letter, please scan a copy of the biodata page of your passport and send to

. Please ensure that your name, picture, and passport number are clearly readable. Due to the volume of requests please allow up to 72 hours for a copy of your extension letter. Every effort is being made to issue them as soon as possible.

It's a really unfortunate situation, and it's unfortunate to read some of the responses that I have read from people saying 'just fly home.' While I am a US citizen, I have been living abroad in different places for the past 10 years. USA does not equal home. I'm currently on a 30-day tourist visa, which I've already extended one time to remain with my husband in Bangkok. My UK husband is in Thailand on a non-immigrant B visa. The USA has issued a travel advisory to avoid international travel. The travel advisory specifically says that US citizens who live abroad should avoid all international travel. I am healthy; why would I risk the chance of catching the virus, especially to travel back to the USA, where I do not have any sort of life or any type of insurance that covers treatment in the USA? Adding the fact that I see how much trouble the USA is in with this coronavirus; cases are ever expanding, the USA has no plan, and asking more people to come back to a country that is massively struggling with what they are dealing with is insane (and don't even get me started with Trump), along with risking being split apart from your husband during this situation. It's utter madness. What are we supposed to do?
