so, I'm benefitting from what Cambodia did for Thailand? If that's the case, I didn't pay for the solution, I just enjoyed the results and carry on the tradition of cleaning up after myself and making things better in Thailand.
The one thing I will say is if you are in country, make sure your phone number is up to date on your account. That was something put out a month or so ago.
have you been doing this consistently since 2004? If you have been staying almost 6 months a year in a house that you own, kinda screams "not a tourist" even if you left after that amount of time, were you planning on coming back to Thailand before the end of the year? It sounds like they were trying to help you be legitimate in Thailand. Get the DTV and stay your 6 months, go visit Laos, come back in and have another great 6 months if that's what you want.
There are one-year extensions, but not one-year visas. If you came in on a 90-day non-o and opened your account and then got the one-year extension you should be fine. They are targeting people that opened their accounts before the long-term visa requirements as they believe they may have been opened for fraudulent reasons.
I was just commenting on what I found. Even without the Patriot Act in the U.S. if the banks want someone's money, they'll just put that person in court until the person realizes that there will be no ROI of time and money because they will just outgun them.
I have heard that Cambodia's infrastructure and accommodation's are about 20 year's behind the surrounding areas. I don't know, just what I have heard.
a bank in the U.S. can close your account and keep your money. Banks are allowed to close accounts for various reasons, including inactivity, negative balances, or suspected fraudulent activity. If your account is closed, the bank is required to return any remaining funds to you, typically in the form of a check. However, if the closure is due to concerns about illegal activity, the bank may hold the funds until further investigation. It's important to note that while a bank can close your account, they are not required to notify you of the closure. I'm thinking this is why Bangkok Bank is doing it, they suspect fraudulent activity from the countries they are targeting.
it's pretty much been across the board with all the banks since early 2025 that you had to have a long stay visa to open an account. To the point even agents were being shut down from assisting account openings in Bangkok and Pattaya.
