No, there is no requirement for money in the bank. The "million dollars" I think you are referring to is not a million dollars, but 1 million Thai Baht, which is the cost of a 20 year Elite Visa (a 5 year visa costs 500 THB). This is not money in the bank, it is the actual price you pay for the visa. As mentioned earlier, there is currently a 6 month "bonus" on these visas.

Take your Passport, Departure Card, 90 Day Notification form (TM47) plus copies of each of them (Face page, last arrival stamp and visa from your passport)

It seems to depend on the individual branch, not on the bank itself. I opened an account absolutely hassle free at KBank in Sri Racha (on the advice of an Immigration Officer in Sri Racha)

At the moment, it won't matter either way - until things improve, you won't be entering the country unless you are in one of the specified categories.

I've tried that numerous times, never seems to work.

Isn't there also supposed to be a couple of days as replacements for Songkhran this month though?

I do mine in Sri Racha, which is rarely busy anyway, so I'll leave it for a while. I would think the clock on the next 90 days starts as soon as you do this one - it might save me a visit in the long term if the amnesty is extended again. :)

I've tried it a few times without any luck. I've decided to just wait until close to 31st July, then go in person.

The other alternative is to marry a Thai and apply for an O visa based on marriage, or if you are older than 50, look into a Retirement visa. :)
