Yeah I know strange how being gay can still kick you in the, er, behind in the 21st century. I've been with my partner for 16 years so obviously we'll have to find a way. I'll ask immigration a bunch of things

Yeah I think you're right but once I'm there I might ask a whole bunch of stuff to get clarity. All Thais and IOs I ever talked to about this topic think gender differentiation is obsolete, and I've never experienced homophobia here, so who knows, maybe they honor the extra level of difficulty.

Sure. I'm also going to ask about applying for an extension based on marriage to a Thai same-sex partner given that the Civil Union Act has passed, but I'm not very optimistic.

It's what I've been told in applications but I'll visit immigration on Wednesday to make sure

From what I've been told, ED visa is no problem once admission is effective. But I'm 49 so I graduated ages ago. I have my transcripts, and there is no age limit for grad school, but I don't know Thai teachers I could approach for recommendation letters.

I probably won't do this myself because I don't know whom to ask about letters of recommendation. The friend who did this got his from his language school, and the one I visited no longer exists :-(.

From what I heard last weekend you're lucky because if you are stamped in until July 11th and if you get a contract now, immigration can process the transfer within the 2-3 weeks they need. But that may differ from immigration to immigration so I'd ask the one responsible for you.

Yes it's a conundrum... they're of course looking to fill a position of someone who cannot return, but they can't give it to someone here because that person would not have the necessary paperwork 😞. I'll just drop by their office and ask.

OK so they can't use me even if I'm accepted because it's a teaching position and school starts in July... I would have to leave with a letter from the school once the borders open to apply for the appropriate visa - correct?

Just to clarify from what immigration told me based on your dates: 1) you definitely won't be able to do a border bounce on that visa that would allow you to get another 60 days, 2) you should be able to get a 30 days extension but that depends on future announcements (my guess is they'll give some sort of paid extension to any visa type, but the duration may differ - could be 15 or 30 days)
