There is a job offer in my town. Does it make sense to apply when one is on amnesty? Or do you still have to be on a valid visa? Thanks for your info!

Applying for a job while on amnesty in Thailand is possible, but you cannot work or extend your stay based on employment from the amnesty status. Currently, departing and returning to Thailand is also not an option.

I see no harm in applying for the job. However, you can not get an extension of stay based on employment from the amnesty, and you *currently* can not leave Thailand and return. You also can not work on an amnesty.

Yes it's a conundrum... they're of course looking to fill a position of someone who cannot return, but they can't give it to someone here because that person would not have the necessary paperwork 😞. I'll just drop by their office and ask.

Ask and see what you can do :( Remember though, you can not work on amnesty, and you can't work without a physical work permit* in your hand.

(*BOI companies are different, they have an electronic permit)

OK so they can't use me even if I'm accepted because it's a teaching position and school starts in July... I would have to leave with a letter from the school once the borders open to apply for the appropriate visa - correct?

We don't know what would happen after the borders reopen. What you would probably end up doing is leaving Thailand, get a Non-B visa from a consulate, get permission from the Thai government to return, go through a 14 day quarantine (at your expense), and then you can start working. To my knowledge, no teacher has ever gotten permission to enter Thailand yet.
