Yes, you are absolutely right! I will move my address to my friend's house and just like I still live in the states. besides I also have to file US tax return every year.

My situation is that I want to sell everything I own in USA and travel in Asia for a year or so then settle down in Thailand, I don't want to come back to USA just for a long term stay. So it seems like I can do that while I am in SE Asia. I understand all the requirements of O-A visa, just didn't know I can get that outside of USA as a USA passport holder. What base can I use?

So if I get into Thailand right before the visa expiration date, this a year-long multi-entry O-A visa will allow me to stay for another 365 days from the last date of the entry without any additional extension requirements, but only 90 days reporting if I stay over 90 days within the country. Am I correct?
