 there IS a Tourist Visa allowing 3 months, which you can extend twice more and stay 9 months in total. It's called STV, as in Special Tourist Visa. That being said, it needs to be requested in your home country and is a pain in the ass to get. If you persist, you will be able to get it. Just ask the Thai Embassy at your home country.
